Laptop not charging

Hi all,

I've got a Dell laptop that's refusing to charge. Weird thing is that when I plug the charger into the wall the light on the brick comes on, but when I plug it into the laptop not only does it not charge, the light on the brick goes off.

I've tried it with a couple of chargers that I know work so it's got to be something to do with the laptop.

Any ideas or help is gratefully received!

Thanks

How old is the battery in the laptop? It may be that it has deteriorated to such an extent that it is taking more current than the power supply is designed for and it is shutting itself down.

Have you tried powering the laptop up without the battery in place? If that works Ok it's almost certainly a dead battery. If not, it's probably a short circuit at the laptop's power inlet.
  • my acer plays up sometimes. Their help desk told me to take the battery out, remove power supply, press down and hold the power off key for 20seconds, then put battery back, plug back in and it should start charging.
