Balance transfer to spouses card?

I wondered if it would be possible to transfer a balance to my wife's credit card (should she be approved for one) she currently only has a debit card. I was recently turned down for a loan, i.e, around 3 -4 months ago, & did not wish to damage my credit score further by applying for any fresh, credit in my own name. I have two cards currently with virgin & sainsburys for a total of £5800, both on quite high interest rates. I am paying back what I can afford, i.e at least the minimum, but more than that when possible. I would like to save money by transferring some of the balance to a 0% card. Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes you can - although a few lenders might refuse they know it's not a transfer from your wife's card. But most don't mind.
Bear in mind it will become her debt, and she will be fully responsible for it.0 -
OK, thanks ZX, don't worry, I was not going to drop her in it! I will set up payments to her account, should the application be successful of course!0

Good man. Just checking you weren't planning on running off with the babysitter....0

LOL, the only problem will be stopping her from spending on the damn thing! where are those scissors, on second thoughts it may be best to keep her away from sharp objects, in case she detects a glint in my eye!0

Getting approved for one with 0% BT might be a problem if she only has a debit card currently... does that mean she did not have a credit card in past?0

Sorry, internet went down for a while there, she has not had a credit card before, is that likely to be a problem?0

Did she have any other type of credit?
It is one of the biggest problems of newbies in a credit card market - they have no credit history (history of managing debt) and so good banks with good offers will not touch them as they cannot assess the risk.
In these circustances the advise usually is to go to your own bank first.0 -
The mortgage is joint, although paid from my a/c, she does have a mobile phone contract & an overdraft facility, but no previous credit cards.0

There is very little chance she will get high street credit card.
Ask her to try her bank first. If they turn her down then I would write in to reconsider given that she is existing customer. That is the best way in.0 -
OK, thanks for the advice Any. Barclays it is then.0
