How rubbish are Equifax???

  • As for cancellation, it is not Martin's but Equifax's fault that they want to rob you by preventing you from unsubscribing as much as they can and still not cross the line to illegality.[/QUOTE]

Steady Tiger! I'm not saying it's Martin's fault! I just find it highly unethical that a company such as Equifax make it easy to sign people up but make it as hard as they possibly can for people to cancel. Plus I couldn't find an actual email address on their site, which is a legal requirement if you're accepting payment online....Oh yes, and the scare tactics....

Any time I've cancelled / re-ordered the card linked with my EQ subscription I get emailed saying payment declined and after a while the subscription cancels and I can sign up for the 30 day trial again (with more Cashback :p )
I made one payment of £6.99 to Equifax in May 09 then cancelled the following month.
I just signed up again (via TCB) but at the end it informed me I was already a member.
Is there any point in ordering the report again?

You can submit questions, which are replied by people.

You can send them certified mail for cancellation.

Martin's advice does not have anything to do with whether you should subscribe to it or not. He just said that if you want to, you can do it for free... As for cancellation, it is not Martin's but Equifax's fault that they want to rob you by preventing you from unsubscribing as much as they can and still not cross the line to illegality.

Well I am pleasantly surprised - signed up for the trial yesterday, via TCB, today £16.66 pending - looked at a report, decided its not for me. Entered 'equifax' on "SAYNOTO0870" and found free number for customer services 0800 066 5825. Just went through a 2-options menu, and spoke immediately to a lovely lady who asked the bare minimum security questions, (no card info) she offered a half-price deal if I wanted to change my mind but did not argue when I declined, and promptly cancelled my trial there and then.
I must admit I thought it would be trickier! All I have to do is await her confirmation email...wow it has arrived as I type this! All done in under 5 mins! I wonder if I'll still get the £16.66? watch out for my update!

    Hello

you can also use 0207 298 3000 to cancel, quoting your reference number.
I subscribed yesterday, had a quick look at my report (notyhing new, last time I saw it was in September) and phned the number that Martin gave in the main website (as above: (no need to premium numbers)- clicked on option 1 I think it was and I got to talk to a very nice and professional lady- like the poster above, a couple of questiones to check I am who I say I am and then just suggested another proeduct (6 quid I think )- she didn;t press when I declined and i got the confirmation emeil 5 minutes later as promised.

I hope I get the cashback, but if i don't, nothing lost- at least I know all my info in there is correct and had a chance to correct it had it been otherwise...

    Good luck

    A

Hi, I've also just cancelled my equifax trial. Please can anyone tell me if everyone does get a cancellation email? The lady on the phone mentioned nothing about this.

I recommend not touching Equifax with a barge pole. Having just followed a link in Martin's newsletter, I decided to benefit from a cashback deal on the 30 day free trial. I checked the credit report and it was just as expected. I then wanted to cancel, as I can see no value whatsover in paying £6.99 per month to access the report. However cancelling is easier said than done. "Contact Us" links lead nowhere, except to automated responses. I work within the web design industry and as Equifax are selling online, they have a legal obligation to display an email address for contact purposes (and not hidden away in small print somewhere). Despite looking on every page, I could not find this. The only way to contact them was to call a pricey 0844 number and speak to someone who tries to prevent you from cancelling by using scare tactics ("you won't know if somebody is stealing your identity") and when I was adamant, offering to exchange it for another product which was "free for a year" and no mention of how much it would cost after. Surely this can't be legal? I love Martin's tips, but this is one that I would avoid and I don't think deserves any publicity. We'll wait and see if the cashback materialises.....

In the help pages, it says clearly on there that you need to call if you want to cancel. I have to say, I thought I would try and cancel via email first to save me the phonecall. I assumed this wouldn't work, but having emailed them they wrote back to confirm it was cancelled so can't say I really had any problems.

    Hi
Can I just jump in here with a quick question about equifax?
DH and I were going to check our credit rating before applying to switch mortgage lenders. After looking at their website I am slightly confused (doesn't take much these days!) After reading some of the posts here I am also now nervous.
Do people think that the 30 free trial is something that is worth doing or is it safer just to pay £14.95 as a one off? Have to say that this sticks in my throat but don't want to be lumbered with something that I can't cancel.
The only reason that we want to check our credit is that we have about £1500 on an interest free credit card (this is going to be paid off just before the interest free period finishes so is under control but we didn't want this to count against us.)
    Any thoughts?
    :)
