Watertight cat litter trays!

At last I have found others with this issue! I really thought it was my beautiful but rather dim cat who had this issue. He will fully go into the open top tray to poo, but for wee he puts his front paws on the litter and more often than not his large backside hangs out and he just wees on the floor. I alternate between changing pads and newspaper on the floor but removing them once or twice day and replacing and cleaning is annoying and expensive!

I have always thought that a covered litter tray would be a no no for them but maybe worth a go - or even a storage box as suggested here.

yes the dimmer cats - esp Toms do this. Mine does, in fact he's started standing with his head poking out of the flap when he's doing No1s - maybe he just likes to spray (he's also neutered & has been for years). Thankfully I have two trays & only feed 50% wet & the other cat is female & squats.
  • I'm so glad I'm not the only one with a cat who does this! I have 3 boys but only 1 manages to spray his wee so it leaks through the cat litter tray. I have 2 covered trays but the way he wees means it's aimed right where the lid meets the tray so leaks through. At the moment I have one tray on a mat which can be chucked in the washer and the other on a spare piece of kitchen lino so can be easily cleaned. I'd love a solution to this too.
