Got my renewal quote today £350 ish - not really changed since last year
but i searched around & found a £40 difference.
I rang churchill to see if they could match it and they told me to try their online site. I did and the price was over £100 cheaper.
I had to ring em back to ad the busness use for my work from home biz
as it cant be done online and that was only a little bit more
but I saved almost £100 on the renewal quote
shocking

Standard practice.... question is of cause should people really "advertise" this "loophole" as if everyone did it the prices would converge to almost what the new business rate is.All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I have also searched for new quotes online for both car and home insurance after receiving renewals - every time the online price is always cheaper (even with same company) I just phone to cancel old policy and take out online quote. A must do everytime....:j0

I went through a similar thing with Tesco's - new quote cheaper than renewal... their CS told me that it is standard practise
presumably to capitalise on people's lazyness to switch/get new quote0 -
Sounds like a quick way to save a few bob. You will no doubt be picking up on any available online discounts in the process.
However, be sure to look out for any changes to the policy wording. Insurers obviously change their policy wording to keep up with the times so don't assume the policy will be identical to the one you currently have.
The other thing is that once you're on the phone (you said that you rang back to add some cover items) you've got another chance to haggle with the insurer. Try to think of something about you which demonstrates to them that you're a better driver than their online questions would otherwise portray you.
If it is the same cover as your renewal quote, it would seem on the surface like a good deal.
It may also be a result of the fact that insurance companies are constantly adjusting their rates so you may have seen this change happen between:
a) them processing the renewal
b)sending out the letter
c)you phoning them up
d) you getting the online quoteAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers0
