I'm looking for some advice for a friend as she has just split up with her boyfriend and she is wondering what she has got to claim as she is not working at the moment. She has got 2 children and the one is 14 and the other is 2. She has been told by different people that she needs to claim single person allowance or social security benefit or income support. So as it seems they are guessing i was wondering what she needs to claim and how much would she get.

Over 25 is £65.45 per weekWould you know how much is income support as i cannot get on the jsa website for some reason.
She needs to also start a claim with the child support agency the father/s have a duty to pay for his child/ren.
She also needs to contact HMRC regarding her child tax credit claim. She must close down the joint claim and apply as a single parent.
She also needs to sort out housing benefit and council tax benefit.*SIGH*

She can input her details into the Turn2us online benefit calculator. Off the top of my head, she may get around £200 per week, plus 25% off her council tax if she's the sole adult in the household, plus LHA if she's renting (see the LHA direct website). The £200 if she is eligible should be composed of approx £65 income support, £35 child benefit and £100 child tax credits. The child support she is paid by the father of the children won't impact her benefits which simply ignore what she gets from him.0
