windows - no receipt, no fensa

Please help, just wondering what I can do. We bought some new windows in November 2010 by a local guy. We got new doors off him in 2009. As these doors are perfect no problems in getting receipt and fensa registration came through within two weeks we thought we would go through him again.
When we got the quote he said 10 year garuntee on them like he did with the doors. Brilliant we thought.
The windows were fitted within three weeks and are really good. The only problem is We have requested by voicemail on various occasions for the receipt to be sent to us with the garuntee and fensa registration. No answer as yet.
I have been digging on the internet and found that his business was dissolved in September 2010.
Any help on what I can do as ive been told will not be able to sell my house without fensa and if the windows break I have no proof of purchase.

Did you pay some or all of the payment with a credit card?
If you did, then the card issuer is jointly liable for the purchase, and you should contact them for advice.
As you have already received a certificate for the doors that you purchased, you should have the installers FENSA registration details.
You could contact Fensa http://www.fensa.co.uk/ and ask their advice, as they may be able to arrange for another fitter to inspect the windows and issue a certificate (although you may have to pay for this).
As to the guarantee. Unless you paid by card, there isn't much that you can do if the company has now folded.0 -
Ive checked the fensa website and was no longer registered that why started to look into the business details.
No we paid by cash and cheque unfortunately.
Thank you for your advice.0 -
I had a similar problem when I sold my house. I had to pay something called an "indemnity insurance." It cost around £300 and I believe it covers the present owner if the windows are subsequently deemed "unfit for purpose." I also had to do this for some building work done in another house I owned. (One of the previous owners had a wall taken out and a RJS fitted.)0

But was he fensa registered when he did your work?Ive checked the fensa website and was no longer registered that why started to look into the business details.
If your installation was registered with fensa, you can get a replacement certificate from fensa for a few pounds.0
