If nothing comes on screen, the problem probably lies elsewhere
download a hd diagnostic from the hd manufacturers website to find out.!!

I have done some diagnostics, and it didn't find anything. Its booted up now, after several attempts, thats why i've come to the conclusion that its failing.0

what is the blue/orange light.
if hd diagnostics didn't find anything, it's unlikely to be hd related, (you should get a bios error or windows error on screen suggesting hd problems), and disk imaging would probably fail!!

The blue/orange light is on the power on button. I'll do some more tests.0 -

Can you please explain how I run Puppy from a usb flash drive?
Often with no HD fitted.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Go to a Puppy download page ( just google linux puppy and download ),
burn to disc using active ISO burner (free download).
Boot from disc. when the blue puppy screen loads click menu in bottom left and go to setup menu you will find an entry called "Puppy Universal Installer". Select that, and follow the simple instructions.
I have been running from a 2 gig flash drive for ages now, it will run off the flash without the need of the hard drive it even lets you save all settings and any bookmarks to the flash drive.
Puppy is very user friendly and on screen prompts when saving for the first time are easy to follow.0 -

I don't think you'll be able to boot off a USB drive, and even if you could it would be relatively slow.
?
Why? USB 2.0 is 480MBit/s. The average hard drive transfers data around 50-60MB/s or 400-480MBit/s
To the OP: Whilst your software did a direct copy, did it set the partition as active?0 -
Seagate tools didn't find anything wrong with my hard drives. I have been turning my heating off at night, so could that be the cause?0

Have you tried unplugging the internal drive? My old desktop will only boot from an external drive if there is no possible other drive from which to boot, even though the Bios is changed to look for an external source first.0
