M&S Swiped an item twice

Just looking through my receipts the other day, and a week or so earlier I bought a tie for my husband in M&S, I remember the day, they were really busy, and I paid for it as normal, ie put in my PIN. I did remember that she didn't say the amount, though I should have checked the amount. Just thinking, does it say on their machines the amount - I can't seem to remember if I COULD have checked!
Anyway, noticing the receipt the other day the SA must have swiped it twice by mistake as there are two entries for the one tie!! and I put in my PIN for £30 instead of £15!!! I am so mad with myself for not checking/noticing it at the time. Obviously I am out of pocket now as it would be my word against theirs, and I doubt it would be worth going in for?
So just a warning really - DO double check what you are signing/putting in your PIN for {groan}
Sorry just noticed I posted this in the wrong place - sorry!

This happens to me absolutely all the time at our local Tesco (it is new store and new staff). Usually I notice in store.
But soon after Christmas I haven't noticed an item put through twice until later on that day and went back and they refunded it immediately without a problem. I was worried about it as I haven't had the shopping with me as a proof.
M&S customer services are fantastic. I think it is worth giving them a ring. How long ago was this purchase?0 -
Absolutely worth going in for. If they will not take your word for it, you can ask for a) The stock to be checked - they must have one more of those ties than they think they've got and b) They will have security cameras at the till, and this will show the purchase. At the end of the day the worst thing they can do is say no !Still virtually alcohol free since 4/1/15. (10 Xmas/ New Year/Birthday drinks)

Hi Daisygirl
I've had a few bad experiences at M&S recently. I bought socks (£10) and they scanned them in twice. Luckily, I was still in the store when I discovered it and went back to the till. They had to take me to customer services to get it refunded. On another occasion a bunch of flowers scanned in at £20 (should have been £10) and the guy on the till had tore the price off without asking so when I queried it, he didn't believe me and I had to get another bunch to prove it. Finally (rant nearly over), on two other occasions the price scanned in didn't match the price displayed (only discovered when I got home). So, yes, M&S do make mistakes but it is worth speaking to customer services.0 -
Thanks for all your replies, yes I may well go in then, just don't want to feel a fool if they say noooooooooo!!!This happens to me absolutely all the time at our local Tesco (it is new store and new staff). Usually I notice in store.

Go in and speak to customer service. The worst they can say is no. M&S generally have quite a good reputation for customer service so it's definitely worth asking.Thanks for all your replies, yes I may well go in then, just don't want to feel a fool if they say noooooooooo!!!

Call them first to let them know about it before you go in. It makes things 100X better for the SA and yourself IME0

There is an issue with M&S software on their tills I think, before Christmas I went in and did a shop for the dine in for two meals and the SA put it all through but the till couldnt catch up properly and so although she had scanned it all once, SOME of the items had gone on twice.
Like you I queried it but it seemed ok, so when I got my receipt I checked and they refunded without issue - but they did say there was a problem that had occured before.
