Motorcycle SORN issue, court action..?!

Hi all,

in need of some urgent advice here, as I am just visiting and currently work abroad for much of my time.

in May 2009 my beloved motorcycle had an engine failure and subsequently it was parked off the public highway in the private driveway of the house. As I was already doing a lot of work abroad at the time, I was away from around then till Dec that year. Realising the tax must have had expired on the bike, I rushed to get a SORN application filled in in Dec and submitted that via the post office.

All seemed fine, but in Nov last year I started being persued by depth collection agencies (more than 3) for a sum of 80GBP in relation to the above motorbike registration - without further details.

I am now being threatened with court action to recover the 80 GBP, but I seem unable to get hold of someone at the DVLA and will be abroad again from tomorrow.

Could someone in the know please shed some light on the SORN status situation, and what I should do?

Thanks

PS. Not really willing to deal with Depth Collection agencies

A DCA can not chase you for a debt without details of what that debt is for. Maybe your tax ran out before the date the bike was SORN'ed and you are being fined.

If you are 'abroad much of the time' how does your post get to you if its posted to your UK address?

If there was a gap between the tax running out and you declaring SORN, they will fine you.

Pay up and they'll go away.
