Involuntary Urination

Hello , I would appreciate some advice on what to do about the above problem.
My 11 yr old dog was diagnosed with having Kidney failure and given only a few months to live(Feb last year).
Pre-empting his demise I got a puppy as I can't live without a dog in the home.
Problem is my old dog has started to urinate and it upsets him but he can't control it, consequently he never gets told off for this I just clean it up (kitchen floor tiled easily done), however, my pup(1yr old) has taken to weeing in the kitchen too! I rather expected this to happen but at a loss as how to deal with it,especially if it has happened whilst I have been out.
It's no good me being cross with the pup,he really doesn't understand why it wrong.
I feel as though I am in between a 'rock & a hard place'.
Any tips would be gratefully appreciated.
I might add, that my old dog has no other symptoms of his illness, he eats like a horse, enjoys our walks, plays with the pup etc etc.
You live..You learn.:)

Have you checked with your vet if it's something like a urinary infection in your old dog? If it's a sphincter problem then it can be controlled by medication.

My nearly 13 year old collie also has kidney disease (diagnosed last April) and our previous one also had kidney disease (diagnosed when she was 13 and lived to nearly 16). You don't say what you're doing about his diet, but I would urge you to read up as much as you can about it and to watch his diet very carefully. There's a brilliant Yahoo group http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/K9KidneyDiet/ with very knowledgeable and helpful people on there that is worth joining as someone may have experienced your old boy's problem.. Apologies if you're already on top of his diet but I thought there'd be no harm in letting you know about renal failure treatment and problems.
