Hello folks
I am about to embark on a decorating a room that has red painted wooden picture rails.
We want to paint them much lighter, more natural coloured, white even
So how do I kill/hide the red colour before painting the picture rails say white.
Thanks,

hi there
red painted picture rails???? ok!!!!
As a finish i would use a nice white satin finish(oil based)
But to void the red i would rub down the wood work with sandpaper (not to course) and give it 2 coats of oil based undercoat.
Crown paints cover better than dulux
By the way a nice off white/natural colour crown do is called ''Soft White''0 -
Hello thefellow, I understand that red takes some killing and simply covering it with 2 x coats of good quality undercoat might not stop the red *grinning* through. Holding a sheet of white paper next to the woodwork, it will still give off a pink tint.0

When my Daughter left home we decorated her room" back to normal" All the wood work was Green gloss which we covered by a light sanding and the one coat of Wilkingsons one coat white gloss...its the best covering paint I have ever used.
