Moving contacts from 2g to 3g sim

Hi
I bought a USB device off ebay which was supposed to be compatable with 2g and 3g sims. It read the 2g sim fine and so I backed up the contacts from it to my laptop. However, the software throws up an error when I try to read from the 3g sim so I'm loathe to try writng to it. Basically what I want to do is copy the contacts from the 2g sim to the 3gsim (on the 3 network).
Does anyone know if I could put the 3gsim in an unlocked nokia n-gage (which already has the 2g sim contacts in the phone memory) and copy the contacts onto the 3g sim. Alternatively could I put the 2g sim in the 3g phone (Motorola C975) and copy the contacts to that phones memory.
A couple of things are putting me off trying this.
1. There's a bit in the quick guide for the Motorola about "Any attempt to use the SIM in other mobiles may result in serious damage to the mobile...."
2. I'm concerned if the sims could get messed up somehow.
Any thoughts/suggestions anyone?
Thanks.

Hi Moderators
Would my thread be better placed in the mobile phone forum do you think? Please feel free to move it if you think it would.
