Ceridwen, I'm kicking myself, that Dylon had gone. Went to the store and those little tub Dylons haven't been made for nearly 2 years, they say. The repalcement product cost £2.99. Sorry, but I can get a whole shirt for that. Have plenty of h.g. onion skins, what colour will they produce? It's the wrong season for the rest of those natural products.
Think onion skins do a sort of light brown????
You could just hang on to that blouse until its the correct season for the colour you want. Think its only another couple of months till there will be some nettles round again - to get green colour.0 -
Pitlane Piglet, I've just sent you a PM.:)

On the plus side, I made a killing at my greengrocers and got another 12 cans tommies at FarmFoods (4 for £1) to add to the storecupboard, so all is well.
Hi GreyQueen
Your posts gave me an idea that I could dye some old clothes to give them a new lease of life. I found a website here that gives instructions as well as what colours things will turn out.

When I had lodgers staying I always had to buy a new duvet or pillows for each new lodger as they got badly stained, I saved all the old one for stuffing toys, draught excluders & small quilts.

HTHMany thanks for that site, Kitschy. I've just bookmarked it for future consultation. My C.S. Radar went off after work and took me to a particular shop where I found, wait for it........a brown tub of Dylon cold water dye for 10p (half the price of the one I missed out on!) Plus they had a good shirt-style blouse on their reduced rail for £1.50. Nothing wrong that I can see bar that the buttons all need re-sewing. Came home and had to crash in bed for an hour (ME and Idiot boy, see the Arms thread for further details if interested) so lost some time and only did a bit of work on the blouse. I'd taken the collar off already (and, boy, does that give a shirt a new look, highly recommend it) and separated the two halves. One had fusible interface on it which wouldn't come off so I halved the other collar lengthwise and used the iron to turn its edges under so I ended up with two strips about 1 cm wide. I've tacked them over the shortened sleeve ends. They're purely ornamental but echo the button-stand and make the sleeve alteration look "meant" IYKWIM. I may remodel old stuff but I like to make a bit of an effort. I was taught how to sew properly and don't like to put my name to a botch job.
Baring any unforeseen circumstances, I'll haul the sewing machine out after work today and stitch 'er up. Then (evil cackle) I shall get into the Dylon and the Shirt shall be reborn in Cafe au Lait. Once that's washed and ironed, the fun bit starts with the Queenly trimmings box.......Honestly, a quick trip to Primarche wouldn't be nearly as much fun, never mind that the depths of my green soul are warmed by avoiding waste. Sorry there won't be pix, peeps, don't have a digicamera.I've decided that as those little tubs of Dylon are now extinct, I shall jump on them with both fists whenever I see them going 2nd hand and have issued an APB with my homies; get Dylon. Some of the pals are in different places and have the run of different c.s. so we have reciprocal foraging duties.
Anyone else out there "on project" with a remake job?Redlady, didn't see your post til this a.m., guess you're in hospital by now. Fast healing and get well soon!
And come back to MSE or I'll find out where you live and send Idiot Boy round to annoy you.;)

Well done with the shirts greyqueen.
I am making a baby petticoat to go under a crochet dress out of an old white tshirt for one of the new grandchildren expected in Feb.
I have not seen petticoats for babies sold for a long time but even with a matching jacket I felt the dress needed something underneath.0 -

We had one of these a few years ago it was a 1982 model which only had 30k on the clock when we bought in 2000, it had been sat in a garage for at least 7 years as the widow couldn't bear to part with her husbands pride and joy, it was the daughter selling due to her mum also passing.
It was a lovely little car and when we sold it 4 years later we got nearly what we paid for it as the guy buying it thought it was querky!

It's my DD2's 6th birthday today. She's been so excited about it for weeks, and I got quite upset about it because I don't really have money to splash out on anything special. One of the boys in her class is 6 in about 3 weeks, and he was telling us that he's getting a DSI (some fancy electronic gadget apparently). I bought my DD a few cheap presents all wrapped up in pink paper. Her favourite one is a soft pink unicorn in a bag which cost about a fiver. It just shows that at her age you don't need to spend a fortune. This present ticked all the little girl boxes - it's a horse, it's pink, it's fluffy and it comes in a bag :rotfl:. She did want some pink lego, but I can't get any for a couple of weeks as the shop hasn't got any stock left (and the price is annoying - it's far more expensive than 'normal' lego ) so she'll have an extra present then. She also got some 'arty' things as she likes to draw and paint.
When I was making her cake this morning just as I was putting the whisk in the sink I licked the cake mixture off it - oops I'd forgotten to put sugar in :rotfl: so I managed to rectify that (it's not the first time I've done that) so note to self next time - don't forget to lick the utensils, just to check0 -
Happy birthday to your daughter Justamum - tell her all the best girls were born on 3rd February! (Yes, it's my birthday today too - but I'm considerably older
:o:o).
OH got me a toastrack (only thing I really wanted) and is picking up a takeaway for dinner tonight. I am going out for lunch tomorrow with 2 of my sisters and one of them is paying for me to have my hair cut.
I feel a bit sorry for my rich friend who just doesn't understand how such simple gestures can bring so much pleasureand I feel a little bit annoyed that I have to defend my OH for his choice (well, my choice really) of gifts.
Have just found a dozen eggs in the cupboard dated 10th January - am tempted to use them - what do you all think? Maybe I could pickle them?"Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718

Happy Birthday. :bdaycake:
Re the eggs - why not crack one open on to a plate and see what it's like. If it smells bad then you know to chuck the rest out. If the white is all runny and doesn't have two distinctive sections then it's getting on a bit. When I used to use eggs I would often be using them about a month after their 'best before' and they were fine.0
