mary-op I do so feel for you and there's me moaning about my foot which although it has disrupted my life for 2months will hopefully get better.
I hope you will be able to enjoy your crafts, the little hearts sound lovely and the watercolours would make lovely gifts, just a little one mounted in an aperture card to be framed by the recipient.
For anyone who has read my previous post, no I don't buy a 4.5kg chicken just a 1.4kg has to do us. I've edited the post now but I really do think I'm losing it today.

IIt's a very trying time and not being very mobile I'm trying to be positive and keep up with the little 'crafty' bits I enjoy doing..........cheaper the better.
Latest bits and bobs are little fabric hearts from free fabric samples...........they might please someone for a birthday and will have cost me nothing but my time.:)
Old tights cut into shreds with scissors make lovely soft fillings for small projectscheap too! :T

Evening all, some great ideas here over the last few days - particularly liked the 101 things to do with cardboard (or words to that effect).
Re bread prices - have noticed ordinary cream crackers are still reasonably priced, esp own brand - bought a large pack in L!dl today for 37p. Think when we have soup and cheese we will have crackers instead of bread from now on.
Also need to try harder with the batch cooking - made veg spag bol tonight, going to try leftover bol on jacket pots with grated cheese and coleslaw on side.
Wish I was a bit more crafty - will have to have a think about this .
Kezlou, v. sorry to hear about OHs job. Hope he is lucky finding another.
Hope everyone who is poorly has a comfortable evening.0 -

I use left over spag bol to make lasagna, I use a cornflour white sauce instead of bechamel to reduce the fat and use half and half breadcrumbs grated from the bread ends and mature cheese for the topping, if the spag bol is a bit thick, I let it down with a little tomato puree and a little water.0 -
((((Hugs)))) to Mary, Bella and anyone else struggling - it always puts me to shame and makes me realise how lucky I am when I hear what others are coping with.
Bluebag - I like the idea of using cornflour instead of bechamel. Is it just a mix of cornflour and water or would I need to add anything else. I made the BBC Good Food macaroni cheese with leeks, my first attempt at proper bechamel. It was scrummy but had about 9000g of fat - not ideal for someone with acid reflux trying to lose weight! So am looking for ways to make recipes a bit healthier.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Charis I wholeheartedly agree with you. I admit to being stupid but I really can't see 1. what the problem is with the way the tough now thread was run and 2. What the problem is with people supporting one another. I thought that was the whole point of Old Style spirit was camaraderie and helping one another whilst dishing out tips.
It is helpful and interesting to have such a variety of topics on here.0 -
I agree - and basically all of the Its Tough thread should have stayed put on the Old Style Board - rather than half of it now running concurrently over on the Moneysavers Arms board.
We did have problems on the other thread and its predecessors at intervals - there were a few nasty personal attacks (by a handful of posters). Some of these were deleted, some remain in situ. The other thing was a tendency at intervals for a run of "everyday" type comments (rather than Its Tough style comments). We managed to keep it together despite these two things.
Anyways - silver lining to the cloud - we are free to say EXACTLY what we please now - in the half of this thread thats on a different Board;):D;). I rather think in the end that it was pretty much decided (by US - not the Board Guides) to get half the thread transferred - so we can do exactly that...0 -
Okay , not sure where to post , Im as OS as i can be at the moment . Although I do need to sort my freezer out today . I am 39 weeks preg , just been told Im on a redeployment register at work for a month then i will receive my notice of redundant whilst they still look for work for me . I have managed to stock up with Slow cooked meals in the freezer , I think i have about 20 at the moment but these need sorting out .
You know what Im so scared . We dont have morgage protection , my OH works hard with 2 jobs and we are trying to get a little pot put aside for the inevitable if it comes. All my family keep saying it will work out , but with two little ones to look after and a OH to comfort I just cant see it.
If it comes to it I will see my Motorbike . Oh needs his for work and it is much cheaper than the car . Although this will be needed for child transport etc. I bulk buy most things and sell on ebay and amazon, I just need advise , more money saving ideas , places to look for jobs ( Not that any will take me on when preg and then on mat leave) I have 2 to apply for but both will want me to start asap so I may be looking at going back when new child is less than 4 monthsIm sat here crying I really am stuck in a rut . I feel i have let my family down . Im being consoled by a 3 year old bless.

Sorry to hear you're so down. It is surprising how these things do actually work out in the end. Try not to worry and think of yourself and the baby. I'm sure someone better than me will be along soon to talk to you and offer advice, but in the meantime have a cuppa and some toast and relax a bit. It will be OK.

Dizzybuff, I'm sorry to hear your bad news. Have you visited the
Redundancy and Redundancy Planning board? There might be some useful info there.
I really hope you work something out, in the meantime, I'm sending a hug :grouphug:
