But my point was about the young adults, what chance of a future have they got. Many will now be unable to afford University, and a lot will not go to college with the loss of EMA.
As of now there are less chances for those from the poorer backgrounds to grind out a new life for themselves in the upper classes.
But as with ALL Tory government, this is exactly what they are trying to stop.
Afterall, they don't want the scum mingling in with their sort do they.
dori20 - you are very firm about this, so presumably you know more about what is replacing EMA than I do (I know that the money is being targetted to the college heads for them to disseminate the money more fairly than it is under EMA), but know no other details.
I would be grateful to hear why you think the new system is inferior to EMA?
Many thanks0 -

well i'm going to miss claiming EMA for my two who both leave school this year and next, but i spose what you never have you never miss.
luckily for me the college is only a 10min walk away so i've not travel expenses to pay and both kids are very low maintenance in comparison to other teens. Neither get pocket money but if they ask for anything they get it (within reason). One has £2.50 per day dinner money & the other one doesnt thru choice because she works in the school library at lunchtime so has no time to queue in the canteen - she takes packed lunch and loves it.
i work full time and don't get me wrong would love dd to get £30 pw but even she knows it's not 'free' money in that many of us posters work a 40hr week and pay for it via tax in our wage packets - which leads me to think i'm glad in a way it's stopping - i am propping up the unemployed (many by choice) who need to get a job and pay for their own kids.0 -
My DS gets EMA at the higher rate of £30 because we are a low income family - we can't afford to pay the extortiate bus fares for him to get to school so I think he will drop out in September because there are no jobs part time or otherwise in this area he will end up on the dole but not get paid a penny because you can't claim anything until you have been out of education for 2 years.
Shame because he is doings Maths, Chemistry and Physics and did want to go to Uni but with the tuition fees going up he won't be, so that is another bright youngster on the scrap heap thanks to the Tory scum who run this country
We are all in it together ....I don't think soBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Don't forget it was Nu-Labour who promised NOT to implement Tuition fees and did a U turn ......The past Decades are full of Government U turns no matter what colour they were..
All parties lie and deceive for their own benefit ..
Nu Labour did some good but at huge cost to the country and for all the Conservatives faults they have a poisioned chalice and lets not forget if Nu-Labour had won the election they would still be cutting pretty much in the same areas........0 -

are you working? could you cut back in some areas to get the busfare together? if it was my son i'd find the money and it's a crime if you allow him to drop out because of losing £30. his future is at stake and as a parent you have to move heaven & earth to help them achieve their full potential - unfortunately it's not all down to the tories.0 -

If you don't fund his education from the child benefit and tax credits you will lose them as well. So it is in your own interest to find the money needed for him to continue education. Surely he could do a couple of paper rounds or something like that? Or get him a bike so he can cycle to college/school. No time like the present to make him aware that he must take some responsibility for his own future.
Nothing for Uni is paid up front. Repayments will start when he is earning a reasonable salary so why won't he be able to go?0 -

Is he going to school in the same town as you live? Can you invest in a second hand bike as a means for him to get there? If the journey to school is over three miles, can you not speak to the school about other travel schemes that may be available, such as subsidised bus tickets? I know that similar schemes are offered in Luton and Bedford, so I would hope that they are available in Dunstable too. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
