ahhhh, that's because you're richer than i am lol! you're getting charged twice on a posher car too :D

hmmm, i'll speak to hubby about it ... but we're building an extension (in theory, when an architect decides they want the work lol!) for little roo though (name not chosen yet) and it would be a real pain if we had a girl, we'd have nowhere to put her so she'd end up costing money if we had to move :rotfl:

anyway, sorry for turning this thread into something so trivial. i did vote, we've had an overpayment but i kept it to pay it back. am earning interest on it as they are taking it back over nearly 3 years by just stopping my money until it's all paid off.

We have six children between us (my eldest is away at uni now, step daughter lives with her mum and I am 39) – believe me having six children will cost you more than any government can give. Mind you, you will gain overall, just not financially…

Back to the topic – we were overpaid and have had 16 different award notices over the year. We have had other peoples children added to our award, had no children and been told that we are no longer a couple...I wish that we earned over £50,000 just so that we never had to deal with this again.

The thing to remember Jellyhead is that it isn't a threshold. The point where someone just gets £545 can vary. But IR provide examples based on the most common scenario of x no. of kids, no childcare costs and no disabilities.

So your award reduces by 37p for every £1 increase in income until it hits £545. At this point it plateaus (stays at £545) until your income passes £50K.

So if your award is £1165 at £25K, you will hit £545 at £26,675.

hi irs, i understand about the 545 thing, but it's still looking to me as if at the 25 thousand mark you get extra for having three children, but not for having 2 children and it seems to me that having 2 does actually cost more than having 1 so an amount in the middle of the two sums would be nice :D

i agree that there has to be limits, the line has to be drawn somewhere, but i can see several reasons why a family in my situation regarding gross income would have a higher net income yet still get the same tax credit as i do and today i just feel like stamping my feet and sulking about it :D

Couldn't have put it better myself.
Just for one moment, thought I'd found my way.

The tax credit system of paying you through an employer cost me a job or it was a major coincidence!

I was having my tax credit paid through my bank account, when suddenly they insisted my employer paid it directly to me. Well she was not atall happy. She was a small business employer and I am pretty sure she could not take the hassle.

One day she came in and said to me in front of all the other employees " You should see all the b*ll*cks your tax people have sent to me. From that time on she behaved in a bad way towards me, glaring at me, ignoring me, leaving the room if I came in etc.
(I know she was a right b*t*h anyway).

One day soon after she called me in and told me I was not up to the job and she would quite understand if I wished to leave. She said a lot more, but I was in tears.

To cut a long story short I left two days later. I still think it was the change that caused the drama!

    larmy,

Sorry to hear that you left your job in this way. It's clearly not good to be working with someone like this woman anyway, but I don't suppose that's any compensation for you.

It could be worth a visit to your local Citizens Advice Bureau and ask them about Constructive Dismissal and whether they think you have a chance of going for that. If you are going to apply to an Employment Tribunal though you have a time limit of 3 months in which to apply.

    Thanks Fran

It was a couple of years ago now and I had forgotten about it until I saw the thread.

Funny sometimes I still have the fantasy of throwing a brick through the window of her shop!!!!!!!!
