My girlfriends suspension coil snapped in her Corsa, Vauxhall charged her £200 in total.0

cost wise it all depends where you have them done expect to pay somewhere between £150 -£250 at a guess.
they dont have to be done as pairs as sold individually but it is best practice to do both.0 -
cheers for the reply.
Just had a dig around and it seems this is a common fault on the Mondeo MK3.
I can get good pair of Springs for about £50 pair.
Getting them fitted is costly
I heard that fitting only one side can cause imbalance problems or if one is better than the other will probably cause the weaker older one to fail.0 -
Yeah, definitely do both sides. But thats what makes it mcostly, I guess.
Same when you have a new tyre fitted, you should do the other side at the same time.0 -
I always do just one side and have never had any problems and i've done quite a few.
If the cars really old and tired then it might cause a problem but its usually ok. If its not level when first done give it a few days to settle.
My advise would be do one side, see how it is and then do the other side if you really want to but I wouldn't bother.I have a lot of problems with my neighbours, they hammer and bang on the walls sometimes until 2 or 3 in the morning - some nights I can hardly hear myself drilling0 -
Mine took 6 months before the other one went. No noticable handling difficulties when I had one side only replaced.0

Best to get done in pairs, If money is very tight then get one done but as one poster above mentioned
the other side went within 6 months. Your may or may not???
I paid £31 for each spring, Diesel MK3 and £60 or £80 fitting charge.
Petrol springs are cheaper and older MK2 springs are cheaper still.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Ive replaced the springs on no end of cars. Some people just replace the one, others always do a pair. Personally I do a pair, as otherwise you`ll end up with a new spring with 0 wear and the other with x number of years wear in it which may or maynot affect the way the car handles.
Springs vary in price, last pair i got cost about 40quid and they were for a peugeot 306.
Fitting is what costs the money. You have to take the wheel off, compress the spring with spring compressors, usually undo 1 or 2 bolts which hold the strut into the hub, let the hub drop - watch the ABS sensor wires, then undo a couple of bolts which hold the top of the strut in the wing. Remove the strut / spring as 1 unit, then remove the top mount off the strut - allen key in the strut and a swan neck spanner to undo the nut, then release the spring compressors. Re-assemble is the reverse. Usually takes me about an hour per spring - so at garage rates thats about £50 + VAT per spring. I have done it a bit quicker using an angle grinder to cut the old spring off rather than compress it - but wouldnt recommend trying that method!0 -
£25 a spring, no more than an hours labour per side to change. If you've been quoted over £100 per spring, they're robbing you blind.0
