We're loosing our home on the 31st march, no fault of our own just the LL wants to sell. So i'm pretty sure we'll be going into emergancy accomidation which is a b&b round this way its a complete sh*t pit ive been there once before and someone tried to snatch my daughter!
Thats not particually relevant to this post though, i'm just trying to get my head round what I need to have prepared. We could potentially be there 3-6 months and have most of our property in storage.
I need to work out how much bedding, clothing and other bits and bobs i'm going to need to put in the "homeless box" the rooms are tiny so it cant be much. I initally thought a weeks worth of clothes and a set of bedding each and we'll just have to go to the laundrette a few times a week?!
I'll also need things like the kettle, toaster and potentially the microwave.
I'm not sure what to do about the eating situation as although breakfast is included I'd rather eat dog poo that use any of their facilities or eat their food!
We cant eat out 3 meals a day, but we'll have no where to cook and no where to cold store things unless we buy a mini fridge??
What can I use as a curtian without actually buying curtians? its an old place with rotting wooden frames so its really draughty
How on earth can I make some decent meals with no access to a oven or anything?
Are normal cleaning products going to be strong enough for me to clean the room before i let the kids in? I know that probably sounds absolutley ridiculas to anyone reading but that place really is foul.
Has anyone been in emergancy accomidation before how do you cope? once the bloke tried to take my baby last time i just left and slept rough with baby untill we found a flat.
this is probably more ramblings that anything but if i didnt write it our i think i will burst into tears again.

what about a slow cooker hun, you can cook some fantastic meals in one.

I think you wiill need to check regarding cooking appliances, given the nature of the building its pretty unlikley youll be allowed to have a toaster, slow cooker or microwave. Certainly the hostels I know of do not allow this due to fire safety.
I know people who have been evicted from hostels for using a toaster, setting alarms off, everyone out, fire brigade come down - false alarm, owner fined 500 quid plus, you get the picture.
I think a mini fridge is unlikely to be honest the family rooms I went in would not have had space in- certainly wait until you have . However there are very mini ones ( argos?) that are about the size of a shoe box you can just about get a pint of milk in... ( ive seen some with england flag on if that helps you find one!) but they are not cheap.
Are the children at school, would they get fed there?
Can I ask, if you have till March, whats the reason you cant find another private rental place?
Best of luck, living as a family in a hostel is possibly one of the worst things tat can happen IMO and I speak as an ex socail worker who used to arrange hostel accomodation for families, are you sure there is nothing more that can be done to secure your own private home? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
can you not use the next 2 months to try and find other accommodation to avoid going into the b&B? Our local council has list of private approved ll (who will accept HB/ LHA if thats an issue) and can even help with a bond as its cheaper to lend bonds than provide the B&B.People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Can't you rent somewhere else? Why do you need to go into emergency accommodation?:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Why are you looking at the worse case scenario?
You do still have time to find a private rental property, look everywhere, papers, shop windows ect.
Has the landlord evicted you properly? he needs to have issued you with a section 21 notice- please post on the selling/renting board they have more experts that know a lot more about this. If he hasn't then you have longer than you think.
Get down to the local council, you never know there may be a property suitable and if they know all of your circumstances then they can help you quicker.

hun, contact the charity 'Shelter' tomorrow! they will give you advice on finding accomodation and will tell you how to contact other agencies such as charity housing, or council housing. but, why cant you find another house to rent? do you have financial problems which means you cannot afford the bond or the two months advance rent? these are things that Shelter can advise on. good luck0

Lauren Ive seen your other thread and it seems things are tough for you right now.
What shelter will tell you is that you should not move outuntil you are formally evicted by the courts.
i know it must be hard for you to keep it all together but dont yet panic about moving into temp accom, its just too soon imo
look on the house buying renting board for s21 advice, many people ask about this and there are some excellent replies as to the steps you need to take, I take it as you live in a rural area this is why there are no rented properties for you to move into as yet.- have you considered moving into another local authority where theremight be more housing? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? You need to find out if the S21 is correctly served and to bear in mind that once the notice is completed, it will take 4-6 months for the landlord to get possession. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

Speak to them again. and again, and again! sometimes you need to become a pain in the A$$ to them before they will help! in some areas the help from charities, councils etc is superb - in others they couldnt care less and wont do anything unless nagged into it! So nag hun! and dont move out until you absolutely have to!0
