I think they look fab, bless 'em. They're only babies, let 'em dress up.

Wow, loving the cake ~ my girls would love a cake like that at their wedding.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

There was a gypsy wedding at the gold club/hotel DS works at last year. The hotel were delighted, they spent a fortune and teh now bankrupt owner was able to carry a sack of cash out the following day.

There was frivolity and hilarity as the drink flowed, but no damage to rooms or beyond, lots and lots of noise but not a single problem whatsoever.

And I don't think that was unique. Years ago I was barmaid in the function room of a local club (London). An Irish travelling wedding party celebrated ~ apart from a bit of arsiness with us when we refused Irish pounds, it was fine, again no damage, no punch ups (well, no more than normal for that particular establishment) and despite feeling a little disenchanted by how rude some of them were, I could find no cause to complain about them.

  • I dont know how the brides best friend managed to stay in that dress! It obviously didnt fit properly as she was constantly pulling it up. She must have felt very uncomfortable.
Most brides look lovely and radiant on their wedding day but not tonights bride IMO. She looked dull and miserable. Poor girl, I wonder if she didnt want to get married. She certainly gave that impression.
    I loved that cake!!!..... really.

oh that dress is horrid! n the mini me one. yuck

We all like different things, I never wanted a white wedding, the whole thing seems a hideous waste of money to me. I don't understand why anyone wants a long white dress. Even as a five year old watching my sister parading round in the net curtains I didn't get it. I see most, if not all, white wedding dresses the way you see these dresses BUT if you feel happy in your dress then that is great. I don't find these brides any more amazing than the girls on Don't Tell the Bride.

If these girls like their big dresses and Disney castle cakes then that is great as well. Seems harsh to say it is horrid and yuck. When I go to weddings I join in with the spirit of it, I think the brides nearly always look lovely as they are happy and in love but I don't understand the big dress, veil, bridesmaids, favours, hen nights or any of the rest of it.

When I got married I wore I dress I liked, short, smart and not new, groom wore a suit he had bought about a year before, we went to the wedding together in his car. My marriage has been happy and long and I think the marriage is more important than the wedding. I don't think everyone should have a wedding like mine, it is great fun to see what other people do and that is why this programme is fascinating but I always like what Thumper's mother said, "If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all." Always seems a good idea especially at weddings.

The big worry for me is what my own DD will do when and if she marries. I hope it isn't anything to OTT but I promise I will smile and cry and tell her she is beautiful.

Agree on both counts! White dresses do nothing for me and I think they all look the same! I love it when people do something a bit different and I suspect some people will think my dress is a bit gypsy wedding. But tough, thats what I want :)

Also agree on the other comment. Its all very well and good to have a thread to discuss and comment on the TV programme but if its reduced to just catty one lines slagging them off its not nice.

I can respect other peoples cultures even if its not for me.

Totally agree. I read an article in the Times yesterday by a guy who is Romany and it was very interesting and I wanted to post it on here as I thought it would be interesting for people to see another perspective but the you have to pay to go on the Times website.

I personally liked watching the show to see the dresses. I love weddings and wedding dresses - even the ones I think look horrible.

I think the show needs to be taken for what it is - an entertainment show and not a accurate portrayal of two (completely different) communities.

  • Totally agree with the last three posters! This thread has started to make me feel increasingly uncomfortable - some of the comments actually seem quite bigoted! :(

The dresses are not to my taste but if that's what the girls want to wear, who are we to make !!!!!y comments and criticise them? They are entitled to wear whatever they wish on their wedding day!

The progamme definitely is more of an entertainment programme and I've really enjoyed it. I think the worst aspect was the "grabbing".

However, my best friend is from a travelling family and they all said they had never heard of grabbing, so that pastime may be for the minority! Also, most of the women I know through my friend all work. The men also work extremely hard, building their businesses up by working really long hours!

I loved seeing the old gypsy caravan and felt sad that they couldn't find places to stop! I think we should respect their traditions, even if we don't agree with every aspect of their lives! Not every aspect of us "gorgers'" lives are perfect after all!
