    - violet HAD to give up work and move from a house to a trailer- where she had to stay at home and clean- she said she felt like a prisoner.

Wonder how much tax Paddy & Co pay? He was buying furniture that cost thousands of pounds (paid in cash) and has a new flashy car every 6 months!

PS. There's a couple of threads on this programme. Maybe they could be merged?

I was actually quite moved by that part. I found it incredibly touching that the extended family and friends still gathered to remember the young lads, and celebrate their lives, even 14 years after their death. And to mourn them.

I don't know if it's an extension of the Irish tradition of the wake or not. But it's not entirely unknown for a culture to remember the dead with music and food and drink and laughter. The Romans did it - they'd pretty much have family picnics in the necropolis, and even 'fed' food and drink into the tomb, so that the deceased could 'join in'. And other modern day cultures take a similar 'celebratory' approach to remembrance.

Maybe I'm just envious, because I have never been able to move past the "crying every time they're mentioned, and only able to remember the bad bits" stage of grieving and remembrance.

I think that the traveller way is a lot healthier!
  • i get what you are saying- but i suppose i was thinking about it from another bereaved person point of you. if i went to see someone i that grave and i saw people playing loud music and drinking i wouldnt be happy. i am happy when the graveyards are quiet (and i dont mean no ppl there) because i then would sit and talk to my aunty and grandma, i would go mad if i saw a party happening.

i doubt paddy does pay tax! a new car every 6 months and expensive furtunitute- its a joke!

re merging the forums together- this is the wedding part of the forum- so its place is here :)

I read the comments re the graveyard with interest and have been mulling over the comments(plus don't have a lot of internet access at mo:()

Anyway, two things firstly Agecroft Cemetery is huge I doubt it makes any difference to anyone.
Secondly as someone who's Sister and also my best friend are burried there. I am far far more offended by the graves that are allowed to fall into neglect. I know it is not always possible to maintain every grave but sometimes I feel its out of sight out of mind. I know which I prefer every time.
