Maplin do a handy power monitor (item code: L61AQ) if you want to find out exactly how much power is being used.
Also, you may want to take a look at enabling the Hibernate function for quick starts in XP.
Strangely I've just bought the exact same thing after reading the start of the thread except I got it off ebay as it was slightly cheaper. I should find it useful jotting down the exact power usage of all my electrical appliances not just my pc.

With hibernate you can actually turn the computer off is what i meant. Uses even less power that way

I bought the monitor because i was also curious about what everything was actually using. I think my computer set up used about 70w ish including the monitor (tft) which is not too bad.
