Possible virus - weird computer problem UPDATED with hijack results please help!

Yesterday i was surfing the net and all of a sudden a pop up appeared saying that my computer had several viruses - the pop up wasnt from my security, but a unknown 'company.' It said i needed to click a link to get rid of the viruses - ive heard of similar scams to this before so disconnected the internet, shut my computer down and restarted in safe mode.
In safe mode i ran a virus check, which didnt find anything so restarted in normal mode. As soon as i restarted i noticed a new icon on my desktop (a internet security one - not mine) so i went to uninstall programmes and tried to uninstall it (on the list in confirmed that this programme had just been installed) - this didnt work as it wouldnt uninstall and again the same screen came up warning me of several viruses.
I then decided to do a system restore to an earlier date. System restore done, the programme has now gone and another full virus check shows no viruses or anything else wrong.
Am i ok to assume that the problem is gone? As at the moment i am too scared to use my online banking in case theres another programme lurking somewhere!

I would still download malwarebytes anti-malware , free, update it and run a quick scan

Yeah it sounds like it's been fixed, but I'd download and run:
- The Malwarebytes ones above.
- Lavasoft's Ad-Aware Free
- Spybot Search and Destroy
- CCleaner
- HijackThis (and then post the log in here for people to see).
You don't need to keep all those programs on your system, but running them all will pick up 99% of everything if you want to do a one-off complete uber-comprehensive scan.
AVG Free Edition Anti Virus is also a good bet.
Run everything and delete what it finds. For even more peace of mind, run them in Safe Mode.
If none of them pick anything up, I'd say you're clean enough.0 -

Thankscan i still download that even though i already have the newest Mcafee installed???

Oh thanks, will download all the things suggested and report back with results - may be tomorrow now, if some kind person would look at the logs for me??
I know Mcafee sucks! Only have it as it came with the laptop as a bundle deal - the full version (wouldnt have paid money for it!)0 -
I would only download malwarebytes, ccleaner and hijack. The other problems are not what they use to be and the others listed should be sufficient.0

So why are you still using it, even if it was 'free'?
Avira, Avast and MSE are all excellent free AV programs, so remove McAfee and use one of them.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
The chances of it being completely gone are slim:idea:0

Right i ran Malwarebytes and it did indeed find several problems which i got rid of. Then ran the scan again after rebooting and it says no problems etc - am i now to presume its gone??? This is the most recent results from the Malwarebytes scan
