Info needed re MP3

Have no idea about MP3 or Ipods etc.

I want to record my CDs onto something slim line so that I can listen to music whilst exercising in the gym.
What will I need in the way of hardware and software and can anyone recommend a reasonably priced player?
Think MP3 look the smallest thing to carry around.

Do you want a high capacity device the you can load all your tracks on to or would you mind a smaller capacity device that you update when you want a change in music?

Have a look at this all you need is a PC, everything else is provided.

how much memeory do you want, i got a 2GB from tesco for £50, can store up to 500 tracks

I don't want a massive amount of memory 500 tracks sounds large so that would be very much more than adequate.
