Car insurance is due for renweal so i checked out Consused.com, the AA come out cheapest at £220 inc protected and legal etc, if i go through Quidco thats an extra £70 cashback making it £150
Having just logged on direct to the AA site via Quidco to get a quote the cheapest i can get is £219 but it wont let me add protected NCD (no tick box for it unless i choose third parth) , does Confused get special rates ?
The next cheapest is Zurich at £180 with cashback taken into consederation.

The rules of confused is that the insurers shouldnt offer discounts however that isnt to say that some dont.
The other thing is that aggregators make assumptions when generating a quote and so can at times give different results when you actually go through to the insurers websiteAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

They usually come out with cheap quotes as they search most of the market and I think they are more independent than Confused who are owned I understand by Admiral. Only an opinion. Also did you try MoneyExpert?
There seems to be lots of these 'comparison sites' these days for car and home insurance etc.... Does anyone think they are any good???
They seem to only compare on price - but there are other things like 'Service' that can make a difference when you buy something like insurance....Anyone else think the same? Or feel they should compare against something else???
Hope this helps everyone.

There are lots of things that they dont compare - level of cover for example, more so with home than motor but even with motor, not all insurers offer driving other cars any more.
The other classic issue which they dont accept is on amendment fees... a policy may be £20 cheaper than another but the cheaper one may charge £35 admin fees -v- £10 for the more expensive one.
One other possible concern is that a number of these sites operate without permission and so could result in your policy being voided meaning you lose your premium and going forward have to declare to future insurers that you have had a policy cancelled. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I did a quick serch on confused about 5 weeks ago for contents and buildings insurance it came up with endsleigh being the cheapest! about £329 for the year but I didn't do anything about it.
about 1 hour later they called me and told me they were top of my list and wanted to do a quote the quote came out about £253 in the end (mainly because I said I'd pay it off rather than take out their stupid pay it per month option)
I've paid their £53 pound deposit off but i'm still waiting for the info to arrive through the post!! She keeps telling me she has sent it again but nothing ever arrives!! But I do think that my post is being stolen as there is a lot of other stuff that never makes it and the post office are not interested in doing anything about it!0 -
It is true that the different rates can be as a result of the assumptions which have to be made by the aggregator - in this case confused.com
You should also be aware that SOME of the insurers use a different quote engine to give aggregators access to their quotes compared to the quote engines working behind the online interface a direct customer uses.
Firstly, this means that the thousands of quote generated by comparison sites don't crash/slow down the direct customers online epxerience. Secondly, if you think about it, it actually allows the insurance provider to adjust direct and aggregator prices accordingly. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers0 -

CLICK HAPPY: You asked about an insurance comparison website which compares on more than just price. Indeed one exists. I'm not keen on self promotion here but you asked about this one directly.
www.insurancewide.com compares insurance providers against:
a) the relevance of the insurer to your profile.
b) the price of the insurance product in question.
c) the previous success of the insurer with customers of a similar profile to your own.
It is fair to say that there are many areas which comparison sites simply cannot compare...the exact policy contents, admin fees (which has been mentioned) and so on. They also cannot tell you which option cover items are important to you. They also rely on accurate information coming back from each insurer - a mean feat in itself!
The role of the comparison website should be to cover a lot of ground work on your behalf - and hopefully save you time and money - but they cannot make that final decision for you. The customer still needs to check policy wording, option cover items and so on.
If you go to https://www.insurancewide.com, the MotorWizard will suggest insurers for your simple profile. The InsurancewideConnect tool (available for motor insurance) will do the same job except it bases it on live data (same technology as confused and moneysupermarket). The difference is we feel that displaying the exact price of each insurer in a list can be misleading for the very reason that you can't see the policy contents. You'll see what I mean if you try it.
Just to readdress the impartial balance...there's a new competitor in this field which has just launched (quitely) called GoCompare. They are the same team of people who previously set up confused. They have a relatively small panel of insurers but they're just starting out - it'll grow in time I'm sure.
Good luck. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers0
