Hi all,

Apologies in advance for my complete ignorance regarding all things technical- it's my DH's department! However I wanted to check with you guys before he goes and spends another £100+ on new windows software :o

Background:

We bought a sony vaio last March, and also bought Windows Office Standard 2007 at the same time. All worked fine until November last year when the laptop completely crashed, we had to send it back to sony and a new hard disk installed. Obviously we lost everything including Windows.

DH tried to reinstall windows, it seemed to be ok but it kept asking for the product key but would not accept the one we had. After about 20 goes it is now locked and we have no windows. DH just wants to buy new software but I wonder if there is something we can do? After all it was not our fault the laptop broke and we had it less than 1yr.

Many thanks,

Imelda

if you are talking about windows and not office, ask sony for a windows disc, explaining the reason, use the serial number on the bottom of the laptop

Sorry, it's microsoft office. Windows was reinstalled on the laptop by Sony.

We bought the standard 2007 edition last March but now it has been wiped off (because of the new hard drive) and we have no office (which I need) and I really don't want to have to buy it again, doesn't seem very fair :-(

phone microsoft and tell them what has happened they should be able to sort something out, if not for the time being have a look at Open Office or Libra Office, its more like microsoft office 2003 however it is 95% compatable with microsoft office documents (there are a few things it doesn seem to like) and the biggest bonus is it is totally free

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)
