NPower Switch/Sales Problem
I received a sales call from NPower on 14/12/10 re switching my utilities supplier. The chap I spoke to seemed very pleasant and knowledgable and as I had had problems with my current supplier (scottish power) I agreed to switch. During the call I asked about the outstanding balance we had with Scottich Power (at the time a little over £150) and I was advised that they would transfer any outstanding balance up to £400 for gas and electricity so I wouldn't have to worry about any final bills etc, this was a good final selling point for me. I was also advised that I would receive £75 in M&S vouchers as the savings they were passing on weren't as large as those they could give some customers. Great, job done.
I received a letter from NPower the other day to advise that they will be taking over the supplying of my electricity as of 20/1/11 and to give them a meter reading. It also mentioned a final bill from my current supplier so I gave them a call to clarify that I won't have a final bill as they were transferring any outstanding balance. Good job I made the call. They apparently do not transfer any outstanding balances and do not give out that amount of vouchers! They are going to trace the call and listen to what was said but this will take up to 10 working days and then the call needs to be transcripted which could take the same amount of time!
Thanks to the plonker of a sales person who obviously would say anything to get his commission, I will now have a large final bill to pay plus a new direct debit for npower.
Not a good start with NPower at all.
Rant over...
Anyone else had similar problems?

why would one supplier transfer YOUR balance to ANOTHER supplier?
It's a lie in the first place.
Never trust Npower.0 -
PLEASE PLEASE, Cancel your contract with npower. If you do not you will find out why they are probably the worst company in the world. They will lie cheat and con you. Please go anywhere else for your power.0

AGREE x infinity !!! I HAD them chasing me over 4 months for a £20 gas bill - because they said my gas usage was too low to believe but they refused to send out anyone to read the meter either.
They sent me court orders/ bailiff threatening letters BUT at the same time I also received their standard apologies letter whenever I phoned up. The promised me for months to revert to MY correct reading but nothing was done until I told them I was going to Ofgem and Watchdog.
S*** them!0 -
OOOOh dear - what have I done? Anyone know how I can stop this going through now or am I too late?0

It's not the end of the world.
Sorry to say this but your mistake is believing that one supplier would transfer YOUR balance to ANOTHER supplier. If you realised that was a lie, then you wouldn't believe in anything else that guy said.
Nevermind - we all learn from our mistakes. In fact, don't worry too much coz' I am sure there are many happy customers from Npower. Problems only arise when there are problems (I can't rephrase that better..). I don't know one energy supplier that doesn't upset any customers. But Npower is top of the list.
Not sure which tariff you signed up to. Some do charge an exit fee of something like £30 per utility in that case don't do anything. And at the same time, you could be enjoying their cheap(er) rates and cash back compared to your old supplier , so you should check everything before you decide....
(not too bad, rank 8th on the list) http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/bargains-and-rip-offs/article.html?in_article_id=521068&in_page_id=5
P.S. Fight hard to have a credit into your account - to compensate the stress they caused you and the lies they make....0 -
Thanks for the advice - I'll see how we get on with the sales team complaints department (should they really have one of these?) it will be in black & white once the phone call is transcripted - I also hope they logged the fact I want the idiot who made all those promises to be sacked! Where else would you get away with blatant lies and keep your job? Only in sales I guess....0

Why on earth would you sign up on the basis of a cold call? The 'agent' was probably just a freelance selling on behalf of nPower.
The best deals are always those you get for yourself by using a comp site for establlshing the best tariff, and then switching via a cashback site. That way, you get the commission. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
to be honest with you he caught me on the hop and as I had had numerous problems with my current supplier I suppose I was sucked in - still, you have to make mistakes to learn from them.0
