50p a shot, have you tried Tesco lately?

£1 a shot to use it there, Waitrose & Sainsburys are normally free

To be fair, For a pound you do get your screenwash filled up aswell

Morrisons used to give you a free voucher for air if you'd filled up with fuel. I know not all do that, but it is common if you ask.

Air should be charged for. That way those who need to use it should pay for it and not be subsidised by us that don't. There's the cost of installation, annual check, servicing, parts and labour, electricity, damaged hoses and gauges etc etc. But people still see free air as a right...

The fact that the OP went to 7 petrol stations means that he was probably not a customer at at least 6 of them.

Another vote for foot pumps here, it only takes a minute to pump up a tyre.

For anyone passing through Dundee the Michelin factory has a bib Michelin man in their car park that delivers air to your tyres free of charge - and it has a big poster next to it telling you what each tyre needs to be inflated to.

OK, so it's not going to help you if you're down South, but someone might see it and use it!:o

The Asda garage that took my cash in exchange for a tank of fuel yesterday had an out of order paid for air pump, as did the Texaco which was the next closest on my route home. Then the final stop was at my local Tesco express and I had to wait for some idiot to do their shopping as they had parked in the air and water space when there was plenty of empty spaces next to them.

Maybe I will get a home pump after all ...... :D

My last experience was that after I put my 20p in I realised there was no hose attached to the machine as the machine chugged away doing nothing useful. Apparently the garage attendant wasn't authorised to give refunds, even 20p and I could either come back later when the manager was there or write a letter.

I was quite fuming that the garage can't be arsed to at least put an out of order sign on the machine and even if they can't manager that, give people their 20p back that I considered writing a letter asking for the 20p back plus the postage costs, but I didn't.

Went into the same garage 2 months later and the machine is still broke.

btw, if I was into conspiracy theories I'd be thinking it's not in the best interests of petrol stations' profits to encourage motorists to fill up their tyres to the correct pressure, since it uses an extra 5% fuel running on underinflated tyres..

  • In my local garage its 20p a token but....

You would have to be on fast forward to get four tyres done in super quick time. I've ran around my car like a wally and still only got nearly three tyres done. So everyone ends up getting two tokens. 40p

Some of the assistants are so embarrassed they give you two tokens anyway.

Does anyone do all four tyres on one token/ I even take all the caps off and park at the optimum distance to beat the blooming machine.

Its not the 20p but the principle....I need to get out more methinks.
