Anyone else got a Peugeut 206 Convertible where rain comes in?

Options
Hi there everyone - wanted to ask if anyone else has this problem?

In brief bought a lovely Peugeot 206 Convertible just before Christmas - second hand from reputable dealer - all great but the rain gets in where the seals join between the top of the door and the part where the roof goes back.....(sorry bit hard to explain without seeing)....anyhow once it's rained you get a couple of small 'showers' inside the car as the water that's gathered in the seals drips out as you first start driving or turn corner etc...

Having seen later models they've now put some kind of roof strips on roof which act as barrier to stop water running straight off (and I presume causing this problem).

Garage I bought from have been brilliant and replaced all seals (ordered from Peugeot) at cost to themselves - they say Peugeot told them there was a recall on this model but having checked with Peugeot with my registration they say not the case.

Local Peugeot dealer tells me they had a 'mob flash' (whatever this is?) from head office on this which means they were aware there was problem along with advice on how to fix but naturally as I didn't buy from them while they're happy to look at it and charge me they ca't fix for free. As you'd expect I don't really want to fork out wods for a full inspection etc when it's not my fault. Should say car is now about 10 years old but much as I love it it's a real pain getting occasional soakings and even trying to plug gap isn't 100% effective.

Anyone else ever heard of this or had a car with similar problem?
Huge thanks if you can help!

I've got a 206 but not a convertible... however I do remember that it was a known issue after the convertible came out (mostly on the driver side if I remember correctly) and that they indeed worked out a fix though AFAIK there never was a recall - I'm surprised that the first owner of the car never got it fixed as it would have been done for free at the time.

Edit: google "206cc roof leak" and you will see that it was a common complaint with the car

I have a Vauxhall Tigra with exactly the same problem, a friend of mine has a 206cc with this problem also and my other friend had it with the Renault Megane convertible...i'm thinking its just a problem with convertibles - not really made for this country are they :)

So annoying when i'm driving along and hit the brakes I get soaked lol...I need to keep it for another 3 and a half years aswell :(

Actually some manufacturers launched models of them here first before mainland Europe- we're the convertible buyers of Europe despite worse weather! :rotfl:

Most folding hard top convertible cars have problems with sealing - Vauxhall Tigra, VW Eos, Peugeot 206 CC & 307/8 CC etc etc. The problem also affects BMW 3 Series and Merc SLKs but to a lesser extent. It's really a case of rushing the product to market and penny pinching on seal design.

  • Ive got a 206 convertible and have the same problem... only on drivers side. Seems to leak through the join between the small back side window and the drivers window. So you end up with a small pool of water on the seat behind the driver.

I keep meaning to look into it a bit more, but at the moment ive got problems with the temp gauge going mad which i need to investigate - might be a sensor, and also the cat converter is on its way out....

If your gonna buy cars like this, you have to take the rough with the smooth.

My Westfield literally throws water at your face when it rains, you actually stay drier with the roof off if you can keep moving at 30mph+..... I knew what I was buying and do I ever moan about it??? No!!

They don't have a class system in Europe like the one we have.... They don't see cars as being status symbols.
In Germany, most of the Mercs you see are Taxi's.

  • thanks everyone for your advice - at least I know I'm not going mad - clearly something that affects other people - have been pushing head office but as the car's long out of warranty they won't do a thing even on 'goodwill' basis claiming as no recall nothing they can do blah blah....

May attempt a bit of home DIY on it as love the car just not the soakings! Thanks again for help!

    Hi bargainhunterkid.

This may be of use to you. I was recommended by a garage mechanic with the same problem as me, ( and you ), to use Krytox Roof Special Lubricant.A garage will tell you how to apply it. I bought mine from vw, and it costs around £38. A whole lot cheaper than having the conventional repair at a garage, at a cost of around £1000.

VW use it in their workshops, and i believe they don't generally sell it to the public, but i'm sure you you could talk them into selling you some. They might try and sell you their wipes. I'd hold out for a bottle of Krytox. I would assume other dealers will sell similar, or theres always the internet.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi there - I posted my problem about rain coming in through the door seals on my lovely peugeot 206 convertible a while back and lots of you responded....well I have now fixed it!!!! And wanted to share it with you in case anyone else has the problem or it could help I guess with other models....

Can't claim any of the credit for this nifty solution as I found the info while searching other websites - think it actually came from someone who'd posted on a peugeot customers website and as I can't now remember where I found it so I can't post them to thank them but anyhow here goes....

Really simple but the seals that run along the car are hollow so a few drops of silicone sealant at either end do the trick and heaps cheaper than paying Peugeot to carry out 'water tests' and whatever else they offered to do and charge me for! Naturally you have to put the sealant in with the roof half back and then you can put the roof down while it sets....did this the other weekend and despite two heavy rain storms am still dry!!!! Very happy!
