Monitor going into power saving mode

Hi everyone,
My desktop computer monitor keeps going into power saving mode when it shouldn't. For example when I am using MSE.
I can't then get it to come out of power saving mode. If I move the mouse or press any key on the keyboard nothing happens, and if I press the on and off button on the monitor, when it comes back on it just says that it is going into power saving mode.
The only way to get it back, is to switch the computer off at the mains, as I can't shut it down because of not having a screen.
The monitor and computer are three years old. It is a Dell inspiron 530 with Windows Vista and a Dell flat screen monitor.
Thanks
Holly

May be worth checking your power settings? Or find a keyboard shotcut for Dell to change between viewing monitors as it may have slipped into a different monitor default0

Afternoon HH.
If Vista has the same options as Windows 7 check the power settings: Control Panel > System & Security > Power Options > Click on the "down arrow" for additional plans > Select High Performance > Adjust your monitor to "Never" sleep.0 -
Thank you for your help gwyne and witchfinder general
I have managed to change the power settings so that the monitor doesn't ever go into power saving mode and will see how it goes.
