Hounds For Heroes

Options
My son is in the A.C.F (army cadets) and as part of his Duke of Edinburgh award he has decided to raise money for charity and has chosen https://www.houndsforheroes.com which isn't a well known charity as it's not been around too long.

Mission Statement:

The purpose of "Hounds for Heroes" is to provide specially trained assistance dogs to injured and disabled men and women of both the UK armed forces and civilian emergency services.

Through this provision our aims are to provide help and practical support leading to an enhanced quality of life for our clients.

Hounds for Heroes:

Initially Hounds for Heroes intends to raise £100,000 to buy 5 Labradors, the Puppies on Parade Appeal, these dogs will be carefully selected for all the qualities needed to produce excellent assistance dogs. The Charity will carefully select puppy parents to start with this very essential part of their training. After around 15 months the specialist training will start, with a combination of puppy parents and the new owner. All the time the puppies will be meeting on a weekly basis to carry out socialisation and specialist training. When the dogs are fully trained the ownership will be fully transferred to the new owner.

As you can see it is a worthy charity to help.

Any advice and ideas that can be suggested to me will be very beneficial to me as I will be helping my son as he is under the age of 16 so needs an adult to help him.

My son is going to organise a non uniform day at school and I have been winning prizes in the comp section to use as prizes for when we have a raffle and also I'd like to organise a charity event or auction but unsure what I should or shouldn't be doing.

I will do a car boot sale once the weather gets better and I'm also knitting things.

So you can see trying the obvious things that I can think of to raise money but I'm sure there will be things that can be suggested that I can also try.

    Sponsored dog walk?

If you have ten cadets and one dog walking one mile, that's ten cadet-miles ... Do that 5 nights a week and that's fifty miles.

If you want to sell raffle tickets to the public outside of a venue or event then you need to register with the local council under the Lotteries legislation. See here

    Thanks Owain.

I was thinking of contacting local companies to donate something and contact the local rugby league club and fooball club as well and try to organise a bucket collection at the matches.

I have no idea how it works, but my local Sainsburys often has local clubs eg majorettes, doing bag packing on Saturday mornings for a donation in the bucket. Might be worth contacting your local one if your son can get some more cadets or school mates to do it with him.

Many thanks for drawing attention to this charity. I hadn't heard of it and I was going to donate to Help for Heroes instead of flowers to mark my stepdad's death last week. He adored dogs, and didn't have the best of times during WW2 and for some time afterwards. Hounds for Heroes is so very appropriate for him.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I will get my son to speak to his Adult Instructor about this, many thanks for the suggestion

How about a cake sale at school? You could make biscuits in the shape of dogs and it could be a regular thing - say one day a week?

I know my son is in the AC and cake sales are mobbed......honestly youwould think they had never seen food! How much does he want to try and raise?
