Dial up Connect pop up box

I have this annoying problem which I am having problems solving,
When I am using my Browser offline ( Firefox) I keep getting the connect to the internet "Dial up Connect" pop up box appearing I have to cancel it but it keeps re-appearing about every minute or so,It's as if I am being prompted to connect to the internet every time. I have also noted that when viewing downloaded HTM files the same thing happens also when I am using "Word".
Can anyone help with this one as I am somewhat baffled this time.
O/S win 2K
regards.

Are you on broadband but previously had a dial-up account? Check in Control Panel/internet options - the 'connection' tab & remove any old dial-up accounts.
