Definitely stick with the homemade calender which is a lovely gift in itself. In the card I would make a point of highlighting the fact that you are looking forwards to meeting in January

or mark the dinner date on the january page of the calendar to really get the point across!

seriously, you have done nothing wrong, if this was me, i would stick to what we agreed and pretend to be oblivious. this is what i do with my in-laws all the time: pretending not to notice things is the only way to go!

the home made pressies you mentioned sound lovely, personally i'd be delighted to receive them.

your SIL may like buying for other people ( i Do) the meal in jan is a lovely idea but also during the season of goodwill you could invite them to your home for some quality time, and cook them a lovely family meal and maybe play a few xmas board games, take some photos and then get these developed onto a 2007 calendar . memories are priceless.

Why not call her and say "I thought we agreed not to buy Christmas presents?" As she seems to have taken it upon herself to change the arrangements without consulting with you then surely her tough luck. Don't feel guilty.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
