IF you weren't pregnant when you started work and are still employed now you will be entitled to SMP at 90% for 6 weeks and 33 weeks at (currently) £124.88 per week (or more depending on your companies policy). Also you should be entitled to tax credits. Check out the credits on entitledto.co.uk and you will also get child benefit at £20 ish per week.

Try this to work out the SMP http://www.direct.gov.uk/maternity.dsb

I'm not sure they are allowed to force you to leave and then not pay you, but that aside, if you are not working you can get Maternity Allowance at £123 a week for nine months, plus Child Tax Credit once child is born, and possibly some other benefits if you are on a low enough wage, such as Working Tax Credit.

I think you need to get some advice about your job though, I didn;t think they were allowed to chuck you out without maternity pay just because you are pregnant.

  • If you can't claim maternity allowance, you may be able to claim ESA. Look here for more details: http://www.dwp.gov.uk/publications/specialist-guides/technical-guidance/ni17a-a-guide-to-maternity/ If you scroll down, there is a section on "what you may be eligible for if you cant claim SMP or MA".

I'd also speak to the CAB about other benefit help and click on the link below for further info. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/Expectingorbringingupchildren/index.htm
