web and email domain
I want to register some domain names (.com and .co.uk) and have a related email address.
What is the best way to go about it?
I looked at 123reg as a start, and I'm going to contact a small web hosting/designing company that has been recommended to me, but I was wondering if anyone who knows more has any advice.
I don't need a website yet, but I will in future, with e-retail facilities (which the web designing company will be able to provide).
I want to own the domains, obviously.
Thank you!

123 is as good a place as any, however you could also look at Vidahost £5.58 + vat 2 years
http://www.vidahost.com/domains
The advantage with Vidahost is they are UK based [Bath] and have 0800 phone number, and answer e-mails promptly, and lastly no charge for tranferring out if you want to
I use them for hosting, 100% satisfiedMember of "Rubbish at Radishes" club0 -
i keep my domains ans hosting separate - which saves any problems should either get into problems!!
I use Domainmonster.com for my domains, which have normally been the cheapest for multiple domains and have by far the easiest management console i have used! They also have very good tech support.
I then use Zen.co.uk for my hosting, they are far from the cheapest, but are very reliable and good, you pay for what you get!!!! I prefer to pay a bit more and get resilience, but then I do the hosting for others so they don't want down time!
If you're quite PC literate then you could set up your own webserver, using something like Apache, and an email server using something like hmail , both are free and will run on a simple old PC, I also use this method for my own email addresses and host a couple of small sites that are non commercial. Took me about 2 evenings to set up from having no knowledge at all about what to do!0 -
I use Orchard Hosting for multiple domains and a single hosting package. Have used them for a number of years and recommended them to friends who have also been pleased. Good customer support and easy to use control panel with automatic installation of a selection of php based systems, including retail ones.
Again, not the cheapest, but I'm pleased with what I get.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. I use a company called UK Cheapest (Google their name) and couldn't be more pleased with them. I have a .co.uk domain name and unlimited email aliases (I have 10 at the moment and every single one works perfect)
Minimum contract with them is two years i think. But you can get that for £7.00 in total for the whole two years. And you can pay with Paypal too so its even safer. They also offer hosting too but seperate if you want it.0 -
thank you all for your responses, very useful info, will definitely research these options.0
