How are you supposed to speak with someone at BT?

Hi,

I moved out of my university house in July last year, I phoned up BT and cancelled, job done.

I then got a bill in October saying I owed them however much for the quarter, so I phoned them up again and they said the line was cancelled and it was probably just the last charge before cancellation.

Now I have been sent another bill for Nov - January, I've not lived in the house for over 3 months yet I'm still being charged for it and the people living there are making calls from it - nothing excessive but still annoying.

I've phoned all the numbers on the bill and the robot women has given me the options 1. pay now, 2. pay later or hang up.

How do I speak to someone and tell them whats what!

Have you tried just hanging on and not pressing anything?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Just hangs up on me. I just sat on the on the cancellation line for 40 minutes and got nothing.

Last time I spoke to them they said the number was nothing to do with me. I'm at a loss and I know they are going to try and take hundreds of pounds from me.
  • In around 1 minute of listening to menus I got to the billing stage then a "Please Hold' Message - try 0800 800 150 or 0330 1234 150 from a mobile, then choose the following options (I didn't enter a phone number, just let it repeat it a few times then it will give you the options below)
2 for residential after ignoring the prompt for phone number
    2 for billing then
2 to bypass the automated payment service then
ignore the requests for a phone number it will give you more options, finally ...
3 for anything else which presented me with a "Please Hold message"
    Hope this is some help!
(Can you tell I've had to phone them alot!?!)

I rang the 0800 800 150 tonight and none of the menu options suited my enquiry so I just hung on and got a very pleasant English chappie who sorted my query, well he said he did, I shall just wait for the next !!!! up by BT in a very frustrating process.
