Debt calls

Options
Hi there

My daughter has got herself into debt and we are getting ongoing telephone calls and as much as I push her to seek professional help with her debts she is afraid due to the fact she works in the bank.

Can she loose her job if she goes onto a debt repayment plan?
Can the debtors contact her place or work?
Causing real problems at home can anyone help please?

  • I doubt the bank would be too pleased tbh, even more so if she gets tele calls there,if she`d get sacked only she and her bosses would know that.
She needs to speak to CAB or cccs for help, and maybe her union rep at work to clarify that position

Has she given them her work number?

I got behind in payments many years ago and the company started calling me at work. It was really embarrassing. I don't know if you can help your lass to avoid this by asking them to call your number instead. They do their best to be disruptive and may continue to call her at work.

Tell her to get in touch with CAB, or other organizations as advised above, as soon as she can. They don't talk with anyone without permission, so her bosses can't know her situation.

I've been there and, honest, once you talk with someone the whole situation changes. Please try to convince her.

The bank are more likely to be sympathetic/helpful if they are told about it rather than find out from a third party. It may even be in her T&C of employment that she must tell them.

They probably run periodic checks on employees anyway
  • All bank employee's must be checked and vetted by the FSA, these were audited on a regular basis and I have known at least 2 people who have been 'let go' by banks for having CCJ's. Get her to talk to the union or staff association rep to start with, or go to her line manager and explain the problem. an Ex of mine worked for a highstreet bank and had a similar issue (car loan/crash and shortfall between insurance payout and outstanding amount). The bank allowed her to take a staff loan to cover the debt.
    Hope that helps.

If they find out where she works they are quite likely to try to contact her there.

She is being stupid if she thinks she will avoid problems at work by not dealing with the situation now rather than when she is taken to court. The problems will only get worse if she buries her head in the sand. If the debt is paased to a debt collection agency they may well tell her that she will be sacked if she doesn't pay £x by the end of the month whether it is true or not.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.
  • thank you all so much for your help, will try and get her help asap nightmare, the last thing we want is for her to loose her job which will make things 100 times worse :(
