Ah I see now - didn't read it properly.0 -
There are cheaper offshore bonds out there. I use AXA on the whole - they charge 1% upfront (with option to amortise over 5 or 8 years) plus £87.50 per quarter. That works out at 0.23% of your initial investment, and as your investment (hopefully!) grows, will become less. Not bad though. But at your age (40 was it?) [edit] oops, you didn't say that! - prooves point really that I'm getting too close to advice...[/edit]
I'm not sure a bond is necessary - but I don't know you or your other half's tax rates, so I can't judge. Building up your ISA holdings and using collectives, shares and gilts should achieve a better (net of charges, net of tax) return. You can always do an investment bond later in life if it becomes more appropriate.
Please ignore if you are likely to be close to age allowances/HR tax/ever likely to receive means-tested benefits/long term care.I'm an Investment Manager. Any comments I make on this board should be not be construed as advice, and are for general information purposes only.0
