Dealer Service Plans

Hi

I have been to a local Vauxhall dealer that offers Service Plans. Basically, you pay a monthly direct debit (in my case just under £19), and this means that when it comes to paying for the service, you don't. However, this only covers the service and not parts if work needs doing.
As part of this you get cheaper MOT (£30 instead of £55), 10% off parts, tyres, money of brake fluid, free puncture repairs, free mini valet. This will be for a duration of 3-years, can be transferred to a new car.
I'm trying to think of anything negative and to be honest I can't. My car is nearly 7-years old, pushing 90k miles and if it saves me having to pay £200 when the service is due I think it is worth it, particularly with a baby on the way.
Has anybody had this type of plan before, good points, bad points, recommended or not. Anything gratefully received.
Cheers
Dan

How much does each type of service for the car cost, and how often do you have it serviced? This scheme is going to cost you £240 a year. Unless you get the car serviced more than once a year at the Vauxhall dealer I can't see how you are going to save money. £200 sounds expensive anyway (unless it is a big car) as Vauxhall masterfit would give you a discount of 20% on servicing

  • Thanks for the advice, I get it serviced once a year, its only a Corsa, but due to age of car I was quoted about £185 I believe. Do you use the Vauxhall Masterfit deal, looks good but can this be used in any Vauxhall dealer? From reading it, it looks free to sign up, is this correct?

I'd put £19/month into a savings account to pay for the annual servicing, and consider finding reputable independent garage that might do the work cheaper.
  • Excellent, I'll take it into account. Has anybody reading on here used the Vauxhall Masterfit Club? Is that recommended?
  • also does that mean youre committed to having the next 3 services there, even if you have shocker on the first ?

I'd definately go to an independent garage, you'll save a fortune, put your £19 away each month instead, some small garages will to a small service for about £60-£80.
Thanks to all the competition posters.
  • just dont go to vauxhall for a service the one by me is at £110 an hour labour for general work an independant garage will be much less and a better service

I've just been offered a 5 year deal of 5 services, 3 ordinary, 2 major for £ 18 a month- about £240 a year. Its 15 percent discount to their normal fees if all was added up. My question is has anyone used them and found it reasonable and how much are services likely to go up in 5 years. It ties in with the 10 year guaranteethat vauxhall gives on partsfor new cars but obviously there can be a lot of exclusions. Has anyone any experience of these service plans- thanks joanna
