Easyjet cancellation- techincal reasons

I recently booked a flight with Easyjet to travel to Geneva to go on a sking holiday. Unfortunately the flight was cancelled due to technical reasons and they have said that they will not pay compensation. I paid over £700 for the holiday and no other suitable flight was offerred. This was not a package holiday. Does anyone know what my chances are with this as I may be forced to take them to the small claims court. I am aware of legislation and recent cases regarding the airlines use of the term "technical" reasons to avoid paying compnsation but are there any other reasons why this approach would be justified. Thanks for your response.

There's plenty of information over on http://www.flightmole.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=14 have a good read.
Have you got Legal expenses cover with an insurance policy?
Anyway, first thing to do is to complain about them to the AUC http://www.auc.org.uk/default.aspx?catid=306&pagetype=90&pageid=2416 do this tonight, send an e mail to the complaints address, because it takes them a long time to reply and the AUC's reply may be useful for a hearing.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0
