a couple of weeks ago I sold a small kite (less than £5.00) on ebay, it was paid for by paypal but we were having problems with paypal money going to an invalid email addy, I messaged them and asked them to cancel payment and either try again or contact us, after a week I got a call asking what was going on, I explained and invited them to a. send a cheque or b. try paypal again, he hadn't even cancelled the original payment as he "didn't know how", he asked if I could do it! eventually he said he would post a cheque, this was a week ago and it only had to come 20 miles up the road, we still have no cheque. Thing is, I know where he works as it's where he wanted it delivered , it's an estate agents so I can easily find the phone number, so do I ring him or not? it might be something like the cheque getting lost but who doesn't check their emails? i don't want to lose a customer by pushing things over a small amount but I have spent so much time on them it's annoying me now. the kite has sat here for a fortnight all packed and ready to go but it has made a mess of my book-keeping as well:mad: whoever said that the customer is always right wants shooting!!!

Ring him. It does sound like the source of the problem was the trouble with your paypal account, so it's not entirely his fault. My TV is broken!

If the buyer paid to a paypal account that is linked to a valid address, even if that address cannot be accessed then he cannot recall or cancel his payment. He may well be waiting for the payment to bounce back, as it will on day 30.
As he has technically paid you cannot open an NPB dispute until the payment bounces back to him and I would htink that since the initial mistake was yours that he would merely put in a non performing seller complaint if you did try to NPB him.

actually the original payment to paypal was cancelled by him, as were a few others that went to the wrong email (god knows why , it was an account that hadnt been used for years), we had 3 other buyers who managed to pay us again with no problems, to our proper account. if I was the buyer I would want to know where my item was as he knows we are just up the road from him ( in the same county, even). we have no idea why the payments went astray, it was only the things that we sold on one particular day that it happened to. I wasn't even considering npb status so I don't know why people have even mentioned it, I was merely asking if it would seem pushy for me to ring him at work. if he doen't want the item any more then fair enough, I just want to know one way or the other, that's what the internet is supposedly for; ease of communication!0
