I sometimes get my mail sent to Maidenhead instead of Maidstone. Then someone scribbles "Maidstone, Kent" on it. My parents sometimes get sent mail from Aylesbury instead of Aylesford. There are plenty of other anomalies:

    Ashford Kent/Middx
    Gillingham Kent/Dorset
    Rainham Kent/Essex

I always thought that post got sorted by postcode, apparently not!

a sign saying no junk mail is irrelevant.
addressed mail has to be delivered. how is a postie to know what you deem junk?
if you dont want unaddressed mail from RM then opt out

Funny that's the part of my post you choose respond to. Never mind the getting given other peoples mail. I know addressed mail has to be delivered, I too was once an employee.

I'm liking these MSE forums, the way people react to posts offers mild amusement.

which part was i supposed to respond to?
perhaps you should highlight the areas in red you want a response to and everything else in black?

Ah, the dreaded Newport postal area changes.

I don't suppose you live in Duffryn, by any chance?

We used to live in Panama Court - NP108AJ - which is built on the site of the old RC school in Duffryn and the postcode had been reassigned from somewhere random near the motorway.

...it's now 3 years later and it looks like they've *finally* updated the postcode records!

I live in the city centre itself (NP20) but my mail appears to be going to Cross Keys NP10....

Newport doesn't make much sense to me, when I first moved here I lived in a new build flats, the address we were given was the one we used. Suddenly a year later they changed the name of my building, the name of the road and the postcode so effectively to all other people it looks like Ive moved house. Couldn't do anything online as for all purposes my building and postcode didn't exist.....

To be fair my parents have the same problem, they live out in the country in a little lane (20 houses or so) and their house is called The X and further down the road called X House. No problem with RM but everytime there is a parcel with DHL etc always gets delivered to the wrong address. Infact on one occasion we had 4 days of repeated delivery for this parcel meant for the other house, I kept telling them where this other house was but they never delivered it...On the fifth day I took the parcel myself and took it round to the guy it was meant for, can't do a job properly - do it yourself....

many posties come in to their rounds prepped. that how the part time duties work
you also have the new fangled holy grail walk sequencing machines. mail now arrives later at the delivery offices as it goes through these machines(well should)
so in theory the mail is in trays and in the order of the frame. so a postie just throws the mail in as quickly as possible in the order of the trays. so its easier to miss a missort item. you also have people putting up duties the dont deliver. never a good mix
staff are given X amount of time to do a tray and managers will staff an office using timings like these. so the pressure is on.
Add in for example that this week i know of offices where the staff have 10+ D2D items
when the timings were created it was 3 max
somehow these have to be made up/delivered with imaginary time

    Which explains your signature.;):D

    Thanks for the information custardy.
