How to change a door seal on washing machine..

Does anyone know if this is easy to do?
Landlord has (apparently) ordered a new door seal for the washing machine, which leaked a lot from the door last time I used it.
When it arrives, is there an easy way to fit this, or is it something it would be advisable to get a professional repairer to do?
It's coming to me via a guy who LL knows, rather than a local supplier, as the model is old and the manufacturer of the machine is no longer in business, otherwise I'd just have asked the person the part is being ordered from.
Thanks to anyone who has time to read / respond :)

that can be a very tricky job, there's a knack to it, lots of washing up liquid to help slide it into place, if you are unsure and not mechanicly minded i would say get a pro in

that's what i was fearing, just trying to keep costs down, but have saved a lot on elec and water bills for four months without a washing machine i guess, so it'll probably even out in the grand scheme of things :)
    i don't suppose it'll come with instructions?!

The Espares website has some useful instructions :

They are generic, and your particular machine is more than likely going to be different, but the general principle will give you a good idea. You may be able to google for instructions for your particular model.

As a previous poster mentioned, it can be a right fiddle. Having said that, I've managed to replace a couple in my time without too much bother.
  • Hi,

eh,,,,, is it not up to your landlord to make sure that all appliances are in good working order?

Thank you for the link. When it turns up i will see how easy it looks before i spend on calling someone out.

you;d think, but it's a private let rather than thru an agency, and he lives in spain / austria for half the year each, and will not be back in the uk until april.
  • If your landlord has suplied the washing machine as part of your tenancy agreement ie furnished/part furnished it is his responsability to have it put right and should not cost you anything, however if it belongs to you or was left in by the previous tenant and he said you could have it and it would be your responsability to look ater it then it will be you. I went on google and managed to change mine ok as it showed a dvd recording how to do it.

    Good Luck

It's LL responsibility if it's his machine. I watched a washing machine engineer do ours, he cursed a bit, but said our AEG machine was easier than some he has to do, but it still took him about half an hour.

thanks for your responses, the machine belongs to the LL not me, if it had been my property i would have replaced it, as the part cost a lot, as apparently they are hard to track down, so once i add the cost of labour to have it changed, it wouldn't have been much more for me to replace the machine - but as it's not my machine it' snot my choice.

the part has finally arrrived (over a month since i paid for it), so i will have a look this evening and try it if it's easy to do, no instructions came with it though so i mayhave to call someone out.

I ordered my seal this morning , its for an Ariston . Have looked at the various 'you tube' clips .
Have read a number of postings , all have eventually managed to replace there seals , but all take some time.
try it if it's easy to do, no instructions came with it though so i mayhave to call someone out.

    Stay positive, have a go.

this video is pretty good. similar for all machines. as been said, a fiddly job, but not rocket science.
an extra pair of hands is useful for some parts of the job. holding the clips or the seal whilst you work your way around.
    Get some gorm.
