Free parking near central Glasgow anyone? Please help!

Hi there!

I am a student at Strathclyde university and it would be absolutely wonderful if I could find a place somewhere near the city centre (say 1 mile radius max) to park my car during the peak times. I have noticed a few council tower blocks near to George Square and was thinking that they may have free parking facilities nearby, but I really don't know Glasgow well enough.

If anyone knows any spots within 1 mile of the city centre with free parking, please do post them if possible - you'd really be helping me (and a lot of others, I'm sure) out.

Posting a Google Map location would be great, too!

Many thanks!

  • The only free parking spaces really are the ones that are roadside as you head out towards Finniston from the Mitchell Library. Be warned though, after about 7am they are all gone. Also, your car will get dings and dents if its parked here.

If your looking for a space you can use flexibly in the daytime; sorry mate, can't help. I really wouldn't advise parking at the tower blocks either - the locals know what cars 'belong' there and what dont, and tend to let you know your not welcome. Flat tyres and scraped paint send a clear hint.

you could park outside the people's palace at glasgow green. it is a 10-15 minute walk to strathclyde from there and there are a couple of iffy blocks to walk past on a roughish street but it's ok when it's light out.

I have only ever found out how to park on the side further away from town. not quite sure how to get to the other closer side road but i know you can.
