Where to sell a diamond ring and watch?

I have a diamond engagement ring and a Movado watch which I no longer want and would like to sell. I'm not sure where to go to get the best price, and I don't want to go the ebay route.
I'm in Manchester, and would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Not on eBay. Try either taking them to a reputable dealer in antiques or jewellery, or look for a specialist auction house that handles precious items.
eBay is far too risky for items of significant value."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I sold some jewllery on ebay recently (not a diamond ring mind you) but it didn't sell for as much as I would have got if I just took it to a jewllery store and traded it in, so I agre with the other don't use Ebay to sell it.0

Now where on earth do you get that from? That's an outrageous statement. Your experience of selling expensive items on ebay or anywhere else is NIL. Yet you come out with this rubbish.
If you take it to an auction house, you will rarely get value for jewellery. All charge a fee plus at least 15% of the sale price.
Anyone who has sold jewellery on ebay and got less than a high street shop would have paid just doesn't know what they are doing.
As the OP has said she doesn't want the ebay rout, fair enough. But be prepared for a shock at what you get offered.0 -

Those are my fears about taking the items to an auction house or jewellers. But I'm not at all comfortable with selling via ebay (and I'd have an account with no reputation, which means a lot of people wouldn't bid on there, plus I'd have to pay to have valuations done as I doubt anyone would buy these items without them).
What other suggestions might you have as to where to get the best price?0 -
Your Movado should be easy to value as there are dealers for them, so you may find something similar on the internet. Your diamond ring should have come with paperwork and again, should retail at what you paid for it. Your ebay price would be around 75% of retail. Take it to a jeweller and see what they offer. They will only give you 50% of what they would sell it for.
Try ringing Stephen Pollock at the Diamond Centre in Shudehill. He may do a valuation for you, and he is a smashing bloke.
As far as selling on ebay, if you set a fixed price it costs 40p. If they don't sell for your asking price, you've lost buttons.0 -

I've looked for the Movado, but haven't had much luck finding the exact model online. No paperwork on the ring, but it was purchased from a tiny jewellers in NYC in the 80s. I'll give the guy at the Diamond Centre a ring, thank you!0
