Solid discs will be fine so long as they are fitted with the correct pads. My guess is they fitted pads designed for the thicker vented disc with the slimmer solid discs.

Solid discs may be fine as long as they are fitted with matching (narrower) caliper. The same pads are often used for both vented and solid.

Didn't you hear any noise from the front end? Even with a mistaken and widest tolerance caliper fitted to the thinnest solid disc, your brake pads had to be down to the metal before they would have slipped out. It does happen with some cars (early discos) but they create some racket before the pad finally slips through.
  • Never knew I could get some money for the discs? How much would they likely fetch, a few pounds?

I'm guessing if the pads are slipping then the calipers aren't the right ones for the brake?

There hasn't been any noises that I've noticed and the brake pad on the right that had slipped down was only half worn.

I wouldn't waste your time trying to flog the discs. The scrap value is likely to be less than the cost of the petrol to take them to the scrappy.
  • sounds like someone but a solid disc on and as the pads wore down over time they popped out to far and fell out

a solid disc is about 12mm and a vented one can be up to 28mm leaving enough for a pad to drop out i have seen it a couple of times
