Virgin stole my miles

Virgin give you miles when you fly with them, but if if you don't use the account then 3 years later they steal them back. It is in the fine print some where, apparently! Also, if you login to your account online they it tells you the expiry date some where apparently! Can't say I've noticed.

Given that google stores my emails forever then is no need to for Virgin to steal the miles back just to save a few bytes. This is just about being mean and treating the little guy like ..... At the end of the day it is the little guy that makes the profit. Who has the largest number of seats on a plane? Economy. Compare Harrods and Tesco, who makes the most profit? Tesco who serves the little guy.

The attitude reminds of Ratners. Treat the little guy as though he is only there to give you his money and one day he won't! We can't all afford to go to disney every year or even every 3 yrs. That doesn't mean we are valuable customers because as a group we are the ones that make Virgin's profits. Same with Ratners who went bust after rubbishing the little guy.

Anyway my tip to other users is to make sure to have some activity on your air miles account every 3 years. Apparently this can be any activity, buying a few more miles (£20 minimum I think) or giving some away to charity.

So better to give some or all the miles to charity than let Virgin steal them back!

Standard on all airline loyalty schemes that miles expire after a period of time -often two years not three.

Any activity on the account during that time restarts the clock so perhaps had you flown Virgin in the last three years you wouldn't feel so put out as a "loyal" customer

I don't think you quite understand that loyalty schemes are for those who actually USE the airline (however there are also several ways to earn extra miles (without buying miles or stepping foot on an aircraft ) and keeping dorment accounts active.

Personally I think your post belongs on the rants board as it is clearly stated in the terms and conditions that you didn't bother to read.

or you could have spent a few quid with one of their 'partner' companies like Waterstones, HMV, Debenhams etc and kept the card alive.

In fairness to Virgin, it is a frequent flyer / loyalty reward card that they are offering, they do offer numerous ways to keep the card alive (not just by flying with them) and the reference to 3 years or you'll lose it is in the T&Cs quite prominently.

Put it down to experience and move on !

Yeah as the guys say above

Unfortunately you must keep the card live

as has been said it is clearly stated on all the info i got with card and on the flying club website.

i generally use the flying club website when making online purchases with partners to keep mileage alive should i not fly virgin in the stated period.

You need not spend any money - you can register for a e-rewards account and generate miles (albeit small amounts) by completing online surveys. Typically they have a sign-up bonus for new accounts or referrals.

Besides that, Virgin haven't 'stolen' your miles as they were never your property.
