Oh we looked at that too - its beautiful/stunning. I loved so many venues.
Your Oh sounds like mine - far too practical He he - but hey good in a way. otherwise I'd be having horses and carriages and the works.
Think its important to follow your heart though - its great when you both love somewhere!!
So what date have you gone for (sorry if you said).
Hope you are as insanely excited as I am. :rotfl:
We're so excited we keep telling each other that we're ACTUALLY getting married on 12 May 2012, as if the other one didn't know!!
Now trying to work out a design for the save the date magnets (very grateful to this board for promoting the benefits of Vistaprint!).0 -

Oh so exciting and now so real - yes we seem to be reminding each other as well. Though sure Oh will get bored of that quicker than me
When are you going to send your save the dates out. I really want to announce things to the world, but 18 months in advance seems (even to my wedding focussed mind) a little on the early side. :rotfl:0 -

I am looking at ideas at the moment and am going to do them via Vistaprint. I think I will send them out in May so they will be 12 months prior to the day. I would love to send them out now but agree it does seem a little too early.
I am desperate to get on with planning everything but really it's too early!!0 -
Awww, congrats! I envy you, we still have the whole venue trawl to finish :S
You must be sooo excited

Searching for the venue is quite fun as you get to nose round places and be treated like a princess - they all want to show you how good they are.
Enjoy it... Now I've found the venue, the amount of planning I need to do is sinking in. before it was just collect ideas, but no deadlines for any decisions - still am sure teh next stage of planning will be great too!! :rotfl:0 -
I know what you mean, Rahven - I can't wait to plan my (sorry, our
) wedding, but I don't feel like we're getting much accomplished yet as we can't make any decisions until the venue issue is sorted. I want to plan all the pretty things!!!!!
Having said that, things are starting to crystallise a little now - we're fairly sure we're going for The Mansion House, as we both just went 'yep, we like' when we went in, but that means we need to sort out an evening venue, accomodation and transport, whereas with the venue we were considering previously everything was in the same place and wedding night accomodation was included. The other venue was a 'head over heart' kind of place - convenient, cheap etc, but somehow not quite 'us'.
We might have found an evening venue (which is surprisingly hard to find, given that all we want is a space to do with as we want that isn't ugly inside!). It's a deconsecrated church which is now used as a community centre so is lovely to look at, and pretty cheap to hire. We're hoping to visit it soon, so will keep you posted!
Good luck with the venue search Rahven, you will find somewhere that is right for you both. Tip: don't restrict your search to google if you're looking for unusual, and in particular cheap, venues. Or at least don't just search under the word 'wedding'!
Hadley1, enjoy the rest of your planning, and delegate where possible! We're always on hand if you need any help x

I may be about to be a bad influence - but go for the Mansion House if you possibly can...!! That is on the basis that you both like/love it. I think there are some comprimises to make along the way, but not sure the venue (within reason) should be one of them.
The potential evening venue sounds amazing - especially if you can do with it what you will!!
I also think you're advise of looking far and wide when searching for venues... it certainly doesn't have to be traditional, just something that you both like.

Oh, we're pretty sure it'll be The Mansion House! :j Although it will work out more expensive, it's still a very reasonable hire cost, especially compared to some we've seen...
We should still be able to keep everything else within budget anyway, as long as we're careful. It just means that we need to sort out whether we can afford to lay on transport for the guests between the two venues (which are fairly close together), or ask people to make their own way. If we provide transport then we have to think about people having to leave their cars at the first venue, or whether we lay on transport from, say the train station so guests can leave their cars where there is plenty of space (but must consider parking costs!), or use public transport. If we don't, there may not be enough parking for everyone at each venue, and it's very easy for people to get lost in that area of Bristol - in fact, we lost our bearings a bit going to visit the Mansion House and we've lived in the area for about 3 years!! :rotfl:
None of the concerns we have are really deal-breakers though; we're just both quite cautious by nature so don't want to say 'yes, we're definitely doing this' until we have a better idea of the logistics.
The other thing we have to consider is whether we have a Friday or Saturday ceremony - Friday would be cheaper, certainly for the Mansion House, possibly also for the evening venue, but H2B is very anxious about inconveniencing people by asking them to take a day off work. I don't think most people would mind at all - everyone we're inviting to the whole do is fairly close family or close friend so they're not going to mind, and the people we're inviting to the evening do only don't have to take time off anyway. So at the moment I'm fairly sure it'll be either Friday 31st August or Saturday 1st September :T

Aye, see we don't have it quite the same cause we're getting married about 200 miles away so we can't just pop in to places, which is what I'd rather do! We're doing an internet trawl, and shortlisting places we want to see.
I've been incredibly geeky and set up a wedding forum for us using one of those free forum sites. I've got the Mums and the bridesmaids (as they are all really spread out around the country too) to register on it and we've got different sections for each bit. In the venue section we've got a thread on each potential venue. When we decide it's a no we update the title to read (name of venue) - No. My thinking is that it'll mean everyone's on the same page and knows what the focus and most importantly can help out
without duplicating work. In theory
Can I ask a quick question? When you've gone to see venues do you ever go for a meal there incognito before you tell them or do you show up to be shown round? We're looking at a pub venue but I'm thinking it might be a good idea to go undercover and see what it's like before they know it's us so we get a better idea of what it's usually like (when they aren't trying to get business!)0 -

Hi
Very organised well done - so impressed. In terms of organisation all I have is a pile (and I mean a pile) of wedding mags and not much else!!
In terms of looking at venues - we did both. I.e. went to some as an ordinary customer for a meal or whatever - after all its all about the service.
One piece of advice - always check both lots of toilets. this certainly gives an idea of the standards of the place. again you might want to do this whilst a normal customer i.e. where there is no special function on.0
