I posted before Christmas about my husband and I splitting up and was asking how to go about doing this..thanks for your advice
DH and I have come to the conclusion that the marriage is over and we need to move on.
We have decided I will move out and go into rented and we will have the children share care.I can't afford to stay in out home,I can't afford the mortgage alone and he can't afford to help with it and pay rent.
I work 16hrs p/wk and I am a carer for my boy who is registered disabled.
I'm trying to save a little money to have behind me but it could be months before I get a decent amount.I'd like to make the break as soon as possible as being here is just causing mental torture for both my dh and I (it has been a long time coming,I have spent years trying to make it work, cried and begged for him to listen to me and work things out and now my wall has been built and I want out, however he has now realised how stupid he has been and goes from saying we'll be adults about it and split amicably to begging me to stay!!!Although I agreed before xmas I have realised by doing so I'm just making myself more unhappy and I don't want to end up hating/resenting him)
So where do I go from here? How do I find out what if any benefits I can claim?
many Thanks

Big hugs to you. What you are doing is very hard but also couragous. It takes a lot to speak out when you realise a relationship is not working.
I found speaking to the CAB very helpful. Make sure you give them all the relevant info and they will point you in the right direction.
Make an appointment with your local HA too and maybe even social work if your son is disabled. I have no knowledge about this but would think that they may be able to help you have a house that suits your needs.
contact tax credits ASAP and tell them about your change in circumstances.
Sorry I don't have more info but at least it's a start
good luck

If you start renting, you may be eligible for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit. Contact your local authority about these. As the only adult you should at least get the 25% single person's discount.
Tax Credits - contact HMRC - you should get a decent amount of Child Tax Credit and also Working Tax Credit as you work 16 hrs per week and will be a single parent.0 -
You should seek the advice of a solicitor about both the separation and your welfare benefits. Given your circumstances, it's likely that the advice would be free.Total Debt Sept 2010 - £24,132.38 / Current - £0.00/ 100% paid
