Help with rgistration for SA

I have got my Activation Code back from Gateway, I went back into HMRC on line services and tried to log in...but cannot do as I am not doing it correctly.

On the Activation Code letter it say visit Gateway, how do I activate my code.

What is users ID....

I am not sure which one I should used. I tried to use my password that I was given when I first signed as user ID but not sure what the password should be.

PLlease help this is my first time doing SA and not too sure how to get into using the on line service.

You need to go to the main HMRC websire and you will be asked to sign in.

I take it you have received an activation code ?

When you go to the log in section you will be asked to enter the above code and you will also be asked to set up a password . You should then be up and running ? Go to here to get started http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/sa/file-online.htm

I am an employee and over 65, work part time have some savings and HM Revenue has have to do SA and this is the first time.

I am a bit confused as the Government Gateway Activation Code letter says:

    1. Visit gateway.gov.uk and select "Enter the Gateway".

    2. Log in using my User ID and Password. (I am not sure which code is my ID and which one is the password)

    3. On the Your Service page, select he relevant service to be activated.

    4. Enter the Activation code.

As put in brackets above I am not sure which is what code.

Also is Government Gateway a different website to the normal HM Revenue site.

Many thanks for help, I think I will needs lots more before the end of January.:o
  • Is there one of the codes which is all numbers ? My OH's activation code is all numbers . We did however chose the password ourselves.

You must have put in a password when you first registered for the online services ?

Go to the link i have given you in post 2 of this thread. Click the link and when it opens look towards the left hand side of the screen . It asks for your password and user id . There are "?"'s that you can click to get added info , click on these to get info.

Thanks no-oneknowsme, ,I think I have worked it out I have users ID but I have forgotten my pin number that I used to register. I cannot find it anywhere I usually write these thing down but if I did I cannot find it now when it is needed.

To activate my code from gateway I will need to use the ID that I got when I registered for code. I have that but I silly me I forgot my pin number, is it difficult to get a new pin nunber...
    .
  • I cant remember having to do all of this when i registered my OH:rotfl:my memory must be worse than i thought !

Hopefully you get sorted teajug . Dont forget though that the deadline for online self assessment is 31st jan so get on to it asap.
